I've been running an OS .46 with a pipe and getting pretty good results. However, due to some stupidity on my part I let the engine sit and get all rusted up. I could replace the bearings but the sleeve has some pit marks in it. I figure by the time I replace everything I'll have spent as much as if I bought a new engine. So my question is, what's the best all around .46 or .50 out there now?

Bamaham,
I agree with Furyflyer, the OS 50 is a great engine. I have one in my belt driven GPH346. I discussed this directly with Hirobo when I upgraded to the 50 and they recommended some changes to handle the additional power of the 50. Here is the response I received from them.
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your mail and patronage of our products.
Please replace following items on your GPH,your GPH could use OS50 engine.
0403-262 GT Mail blade holder
0403-273 GT Main blade
0403-301 GPH belt drive conversion
0403-241 Gyro mount
0402-591 SE Main gear
Thank you again for your kind approach us.
With best regards,
HIROBO LIMITED
Takahiro Kobayashi
These recommendations were to convert my GPH346 into a GPH50. I already had the belt drive model, so I didn't need to do that. If you have the tube drive, it's just as good. The GT blade holders are metal. And the SE main gear is "machined" nylon instead of molded. The gyro mount is optional IMHO
Hope this helps.

Let me try to understand this. "Nobody" likes the OS50, but he agrees with Furyflyer who does like the OS50, so doesn't that mean that somebody likes the OS50, but I haven't heard from him. Thanks for your replies. I was leaning towards the OS but
didn't know what the latest and greatest was. I hope I still have time to get to the mall and tell Santa what engine I want.
