Default 1/2 or 3/4 stick hovering?

Hi guys.. I've complete my basic flying using normal mode and want for the next step aerobatic flying using stunt mode (idle up 1 & 2). Some fliers said i must change my normal mode pitch & throttle from 1/2 stick hover to 3/4 stick. The reason is my heli do not drop down when i change to idle up mode. I like my current setup (1/2 stick)which i learn it from beginning and sometimes i used it to monitor isn't my engine in lean or rich condition.

Just want to get some opinion, which type of setup do u prefer for hover, 3/4 or 1/2 stick and what is the advantage and disadvantage for both setup?
TQ..

All my modes are 3/4 stick hover.

imo if you like it at 1/2 leave it at half. just prepare for the heli to drop a little when you switch modes.

i think one of the reasons for having a 1/2 stick hover is so that you can have 2 pitch settings after the hover point.. with 3/4 stick, you only have one.

itll keep you on your toes. if you cant prepare for the drop, you shouldnt be doing 3d

If you are going to start flying 3d you might as well get used to it.

The other option is to climb out and switch modes during the climb but I have all my top 3 points in all my flights modes

0, 5, 10 except hold which is 0 5 12 so nothing happens during any switch flipping.

Will that mean that at mid stick in normal mode the pitch will be 0 degrees, like idle up?
Also with an autorotation should you have a lot of negative pitch?

Thanks,
Ross

My mid stick is 0 in every mode.

-4 on the bottom for autos on my Raptor, -5 on my EVO

Yes ... the general solution is to build the top half of the normal mode curves (50%,75%,100%) to look the same as your idle up curves but leave the bottom of the normal curve (0%,25%) looking like the normal normal mode settings (ie -3ish° at the bottom). This way, as long as you switch between modes while the stick is at 50% or higher, the heli won't do anything sudden like fall out of the sky or jump off the ground.

Since the heli flys the same at 50% and up, just make sure you are in idle up before you flip your heli upside down or bad things might happen.

You need only about -4/-5° at the most to do a normal auto.

Good Luck,

My pitch and throttle curves are close but not the same above 1/2 throttle. My Raptor 50 drops just a touch when I flip into idle up. The RPM goes up and the pitch goes down a little, but in the end the curves are set the way I like them and that's all that really matters.

If you like the normal curves you have leave them. You may choose to change them later, I did. Mine were way off at first now they are close.

Thanks for the advice,

I usually go into idle up while the heli is on the ground so there is no big drop. I've noticed on Realflight there is no drop but the hovering seems just above mid stick for normal mode... also when I did an auto the heli really came down quickly and I had to give full positive to let it float down where realflight floats without you having to do anything?

WhtBronco if you were flying Futaba you'd be able to put a delay on the throttle and or pitch servo so even if there's a difference, when you hit the switch it transitions smoothly.

yea real life kinda sucks that way dont it?

when your using full positive your blades loose speed fast. the idea is to let your heli fall out of the sky, with negative pitch. that will keep yoru hs up and allow you to flare when your near the ground.

With 3/4 stick hover you can also monitor if your engine is lean or rich, I don't understand this point??

i think one of the reasons for having a 1/2 stick hover is so that you can have 2 pitch settings after the hover point.. with 3/4 stick, you only have one.
That depends on the number of points in your pitch curve. Anyway the curve should be linear so any number of points will work.

I recommend 3/4stick hover all the way, both for hover and 3D work. Every switch (mental or physically) is one too much.

I just switched to 3/4 hovering and it is a lot easier to flick the switch in the air...don't know why I didn't do it sooner

3/4 Stick. I find it simple to have the same collective in all modes with exception of cutting back on neg pitch to -5° in norm and TH.
