Hi,
Can someone please tell me what the largest size engine will fit into a stock 30 helicopter.
Will the O.S 50 Hyper or 46FX-h fit into a caliber 30.
Are there any problems with putting a larger engine into a 30 heli??
Thanks,
Ross

An OS50 gets in there without modifications (well, some parts to adapt for other hole positions etc)
But to make proper use of a larger engine you need larger blades. And larger blades need larger boom. At some point bearings start to wear quicker than should. For instance the V1 trust bearings broke down quickly with 50 size blades.

As stated you can pretty much stuff any engine into any heli with modifications. But to my knowledge the biggest engine that will drop into a 30 heli is the Toki 40. The O.S. 37 would be the next size down.

Some helos can be easily modified to accept a larger motor, some can't. Modern .46 and .50 sized helos are based on .30 size helos. That said I had a Century Pro .30 that I ran a OS .46 in. the only thing that I needed to put the motor in was a engine mount from the Century Falcon. The real worry about using different engines is their operating RPM, .46 and .50 engines turn slower than .32 and .34 size. The pinion gear from the Falcon was used to bring the head speed up to normal. What this did was take a great flying cheap helo that needed a high dollar pipe and 30% fuel with a .32 into a screamer with a cheap muffler and 15% fuel with the .46. The .46 and .32 OS were about the same price and the pinion and motor mount cost less than the tuned pipe for the .32. Going any bigger would be a waste of motor and would be very difficult.
Another case in point is the Freya I now have, designed for a .61 but was a bit of a dog even with good fuel and a pipe. Put a .91 in it and it's a whole new animal, on 15% fuel and a muffler. Now they sell it as a .61/.91 helo. The Raptor .61 is the same, it's now sold as a .61/.91.
Bottom line is subbing motors is a normal part of the evolution of helos.

thanks for all the replies, I now have a 90 and will get either a 50 or 60 soon so theres not really any point in upgrading the 30 any more.

Engine question:
I run O.S. .37sz-h with a Mavrikk Pipe on Cool Power 30%. If I went to less expensive Cool Power 15% would I see a major decrease in performance? The 30% is expensive.
I'm just learning, well not really, this is my first nitro heli, I have several ecletrics.

there would be a decrease in power but if you're not doing insane 3D then i think you will be ok. i only run 15 in my engines and there is plenty of power. The best way to find out is buy a quart if you can or a gallon and burn it up and see what you think for your self

No insane 3D for me. Maybe a flip, a roll, a loop that's about it for now. So I would be ok with a 15%.
On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the 30% Cool Power, what would 15% be in comparison?

id say a 7 but just buy a quart of 15 and try it. it's not going to hurt your engine, if anything it will make the engine have a longer life runing a lower nitro, not to mention you wont be burrning quite as big of a whole in your wallet
