Default Help with Nexus .30 Combo package

I just bought a Nexus .30 combo (nexus ARF with OS .32, Futaba 6VH, helimax micro gyro) and I noticed at least one error in the assembly instructions. It forgets to tell you that the Pitch control needs to be reversed (when i push the stick up I got negative pitch)

I switched the servo reverse and trimmed it out but im wondering if there is something else im missing before I go for my first cras^h^h^h^h err... flight (ie when I push the elevator forward what SHOULD the linkage and swashplate do?)

Any one else have this kit and notice anything else that would ruin my first attempt at flying (im a newbie to choppers though I did RC cars for years)

I planning on going out this weekend (2/9/02) to trim it out and break in the engine/gears (if I can find a blade balancer by then)
and maybe try and get it off the ground (and safely back?)

Also anyone close by northern NJ USA (bound brook area) that would care to help a budding pilot not kill his first model?

Default Thanks

everything else checks out.

just a note... the trottle goes back for full... they inverted the trottle lever on the carb to make room in the frame. (I checked the engine directions)

now All I got to do is glue/balance the blades and mount the reciever (with alot of padding)

Thanks alot

I have a bunch of those nexus and I started out with the 6XH radio and the helimax piezo gyro. The first thing I would do is send the heli max gyro back and get your money back. I am not being funny about this. They are junk. All of them I have seen, you can't get them adjusted right. If you are that bad on money buy a telebee they are only 89.00 at heli-world and if money is not an issue buy a good heading hold. It will make learning all the easier. On the nexus you will need to adjust your pitch rods longer then the manual calls for to get your pitch right.

Unstable,

Please use caution with the directions in the above post.. fitenfyr was right on the money with his descriptions, but there are a couple of things you need to look at.

I have two Nexus helis. The first one I bought was the ARF, and the pitch slider goes UP to increase the blade angle (pitch). I obtained a second Nexus (crashed) from a friend, and rebuilt it. On this model, the pitch slider goes DOWN to increase the blade angle.

When refering to both of the parts books for the Nexus, to replace the pitch slider assembly (mixing base), they have TWO DIFFERENT PART NUMBERS for both models of the heli. Seems the mixing base (as well as the blade grips) were revamped by Kyosho at some point, and the Pitch Control Rods were moved from the trailing edge of the blade grips to the leading edge.

On my original model (with the pitch ball links on the LEADING edge of the blade grips) the description of the replacement part labels the pitch slider a "Mixing Base (reverse)" .. PN 531 (assembly number H-3352 with the pitch rods installed). On the second model, (which appears to be an older design) the pitch ball links are on the TRAILING edge of the blade grips. This is labeled a "Mixing Base" and is PN 21 (assembly number H-3316.. ). The difference is the mounting ears for the Cyclic Lever set are viewed on the RIGHT side on PN 531, and on the LEFT on PN 21. This completely reverses the Mixing Lever set orientation, and the orientation of the pitch rod(s) and the stabilizer rod(s).

Note also that this will invert the Stabilizer Seesaw orientation when installed (the stabilizer control ball links should be closest to the ball links on the blade grips... NOT on the opposite side ..).

If replacing the blade grips, the part numbers are H-3320A for the L/E pitch actuation style or H-3320 for the T/E pitch actuation style.

My point here is that MANY parts of the Nexus helis are interchangable, but SOME of them differ, in MAJOR ways. Use caution when setting up the Heli, and if you happen to need replacement parts, refer strictly to your manual for replacement part numbers, and orientation of those parts when installed (refer to the exploded views or isometric drawings in the assembly section). It will save you a trip to your LHS and days of frustration and down time waiting on the proper part. :sunsmiley
