I tried to install my 550t into an a venture50 with long boom conversion. When I get it into a hover the tail starts to wag back an forth and I mean a really big wag starts at about a couple inches and if you held it long enough about 180 deg. I cant seem to figure it out. I put my 240 gyro in with the 8700 servo and it works great. So I dont think it is a servo problem. Everything is set acorrding to the instructions. I have had the gyro in my ergo for about 3 months with no problems. Is it too much gyro for the venture?

Is this happening in rate mode or heading hold mode.
Is the machine balanced well, vibration is horrible to piezo gyros.
The 8700g can only be used with pcm receivers.
Did you reduce your gain to see if the wagging went away?
You may want to move the piezo element (the silver part) to another location to see if there is less vibration.
Btw. I have a 550t with the JR DS8417 servo on a JR 549 (FM) in my venture and it works great. I only have to give minor trim adjustment when there are big temp changes.
Also, I'm around 50% gain with the ball link mounted 15mm from the center of the output shaft. I am just below the threshold of wagging @ 50%.
Hope this helps, Lucas

I have had good experiences with my 550 gyro and I have had some very experienced pilots compliment it as well.
I think that ja1010 is correct about the JR bashers, they are just lazy. If you set it up correctly then it will work wonderfully.

Don't be so hard on us guy's who tried the g550t without success.
Spending two weeks messing with all kinds of set-ups to make the thingy work is not being lazy. I finally had to switch to a pcm reciever before it would stop making my radio glitch. Digital tail servo / standard, the thing would not stop interfereng with radio. Four different receivers etc....
I love all of my J.R. stuff. I really wanted to have that awesome g550 in my heli. I now have 401's and love them. The easy set up of the a 401 is foolproof, and rock solid. We are lucky to have such great manufacture's!

I have a 550T and two 6000T's. Using the enclosed manuals I was able to set them up in about 10 minutes and they were rock on the first flight. The 6000T is so sensitive that you should not have the push rod more then 11mm from the center...The guys that were putting them at 15mm were burning up there servos in 5 hours...I am not sure if the 6000t is in the states yet, if it is I recommend giving it a try.
