Help with TT .39

I just got my new TT .39 and stuck it my venture. ( pretty!) When I went to start it I could not get it going and I had to give it almost half throttle just to get it to start. The needle was two turns open, the manual says to break it in with the needle three turns open but I could not get it to start at that setting. It makes a lot of smoke and will not idle below about one third throttle. Is this normal?

I run mine at a few turns out 2~2.5 . From day one my 39 idled very well. Are you certain you don't have a pinched fuel or air line making it difficult for the engine to draw fuel. I also completely disassembled the carb on mine and blew it all out before it ever saw fuel, could be some factory debris in there.
When it starts at half throttle is it running rich, lean, both, is it consistently doing the same thing ???

I did blow my engine out before I ran it. When it starts at half throttle it is running rich. I never thought about the pinched fuel line and that could be my problem because the line from my header tank makes a pretty sharp turn. Would it be okay to loop the line to take the pinching out?

Ya, don't worry too much about line length. I mean you don't want excessively long fuel line everywhere because that will increase flow resistance also, but you defiantly don't want any pinching or squeezing of the line. I usually route my lines with a little excess that way the line can find the way it's most comfortable with.
You may also check your low speed needle, I can't recall where mine's at, but you may need to open it up some. By what your saying when your high speed starts to close with the barrel, the low speed has to now supply some or all of the fuel. If it's not open enough the engine would just die, the only thing is, I would think that you would get a little lean run just before it died but, maybe not. But it's something to check out.

I have a Venture and would like to put a TT .39 in it. I have a OS .
32 but would like more power. However I don't want no TT headaches either. From most TT .39 owners they seem to very happy with the performance increase over the OS .32 as well as the reliability of the engine.
Just curious of your comments on the TT .39 over the OS .32 =(that is if you orginally owned a Os .32)

Hi. I did own an O.S. .32 but it was in a Nexus so I really cannot compare the power. However my TT .39 idles and runs very well and seems to have plenty of power for my Venture. I would go ahead and get the TT .39 for your heli. The only thing is I have noticed is that it seems to eat more gas than my O.S. I would recommend this engine though.
