Default setting up a GY401 with 7CHF in a Sceadu EVO 30

i have sceadu evo 30 that i bought in a combo with a futaba 7CHF and a relly crappy head holding gyro that i could not, to save my life, get the wag out. I have just ordered a GY401 and i was wondering what i should set the gain at starting out on the transmitter for hovering and forward flight. THe sceadu has futaba digital servos for everything ecept the throttle which has a 3001. any help would be great!
thanks
-Matt

Did you order the 9254 to go with your gyro?

no i already have digitals on all surfaces they are S3151's are they not going to work in the DS mode? i thought you could use any digital servo for the rudder. Is it a matter of not having enough tourque? i'm not doing alot of fast rudder movements now so will the S3151 work for now and when i get more into the 3D stuff upgrade later?

All digital servos are not created equal, you really should have bought the combo, its not all that much more. Thats a slow servo (relativley speaking) for a tail servo.

Gain of around 50 in normal and avc mode will get you in the ball park.

well i might order one then and put the extra 3151 on the throtle. I was gonna upgrade the servo when i uprgraded the evo from a 30 to a 50 but you drive a hard bargen. I'm gonna mount the 401 and see how it works and order the new servo tomorrow if it really needs it. Thanks for all your help

You can, I just set it to a switch, the big one behind the idle up, and leave it towards the back. People that need really fine control can run different gains in idle up and normal but for most flying just set it and forget it.

ok so set one for Normal mode and one for AVCS Mode. and start with the gain at 50% for both got it. So when i'm just in Idle1 do i have the gyro set to normal mode or AVCS? I'm asuming for idle 2/3 you have AVCS since you want to lock the tail when actualy flying around. or do i always have it set to AVCS?

You dont ever HAVE to set it to AVCS unless you want to fly backwards. That being said, most of us (except for Tippy who has an aversion to technology) just leave it in heading hold mode and forget it.

What you want to do is to hover the helicopter in rate mode and adjust the length of the rudder linkage so that the helicopter doesn't drift while the servo arm is 90 degrees to the linkage (rotate the arm on the spline or get a wheel and drill a hole, DONT use sub trim). Then land, flip the switch 3 times fast ending up in heading hold and go fly, you wont have to mess with it ever again.

Normal mode = rate mode, I generally say rate mode when refering to a gyro so as not to confuse it with normal flight mode.

Heading Hold, Tail Lock, Angular Velocity Control System all mean the same thing.

So hover the heli in normal (gyro) mode and set up your linkage, flip the switch to heading hold and enjoy.

Well i got it all set up in Normal mode. It took about four full turns on the controle rod until it hovered with no yah. After i got it set i fliped it to AVCS and oh my god what a difference. the tail was locked and it was such a beautiful thing. that CSM gyro was a POS compaired to the 401 with the S9254! I flew my sceadu faster than i ever had. I almost got the nerve to try a loop but i chickened out. Maybe tomorrow . any way thanks for all your help. Hopefully i'll be on my way to arobatics and 3D in no time.

Glad it worked for you.

Loops are easy, just get it into forward flight and pull back, as it points straight up start backing off the collective, you really dont need to go negative, just to about zero degrees, as its pointing straight down keep holding back pressure on the elevator and start feeding in collective again. It will be over before your heart has a chance to stop

well i went out today ready to try a loop after trying many times on Real Flight. I pre flight checked the scceadu and the carb was wobbleing. Looking closer both screws that hold the carb in place were gone. no loops today[&o]. I've got to try and order them from Heliproz.

Good that you had the sense to look it over before flying!
