Default long line, anyone doing it well?

Has anyone ever hooked up a lone line under a heli with a good release system?

What are you trying to do? I thought about using it to string christmas lights on tall trees for the city. I would use a Rocket city releasable tow hook for gliders. They are positive lock and no chance of missing the release.

I have made a few release mechanisms to release a pull line that I took up with my various RC helicopters. What are you trying to do with the line? I used mine to place pull line to string power line.

The release mechanism is relative easy to make. I use three nose gear blocks mounted on a aply or fiberglass plate. I than solder a 5/32" brass tube to a flex cable. Anchor the outer tube of the flex cable and hook the cable end to a servo. The 5/32" tube will slide back and forth within these nose gear blocks. I adjust the length and travel so the tube will retract completely between two nose gear blocks. I then use a metal key ring and tie the pull line to the ring. I put the ring in between the two nose gear block, flip the Tx switch and the tube push forward to the first block trapping the ring. It is easier if I can get a sketch to you.

The only time I slung a load under is to test out the pulling capacity of my various helicopters.

Some scale lumber or a Bambi bucket or something like that. I was more interested in trying but wondering if anyone was as foolish as myself to try this?

That ought to be pretty easy to duplicate. You can probably make a rather scale release mechanism.

Do you know any one who has tried it and how easy was it to fly?

If the load is not exceedingly heavy the flight characteristics should be reasonable. If the load is heavy you will have a pendulum effect. Your fore and aft cyclic will be a bit more sluggish. You have to fly the helicopter a lot smoother than you would without the load.

It doesn't take very much to do some experiment with a practice chopper before you go to scale.

Default towing a load

I used my concept 30 to tow my rc boat out of the lake twice.
Used boom drop release from plane mounted to frame. Put a line with treble hook. Hovered over boat and hooked it inside then tow it to shore were I wouldnt get too wet. It didnt lift the boat but just towed it.
