What is the correct way to setup a tail rotor linkage when using a heading hold gyro? When I set mine up and use the atv's to limit the throw to aviod a linkage bind, the servo will walk slowly on the ground until it over drives the linkage. The only way I have found to keep this from happening is to set the atv's to 100% and set the linikage to run the limit of the tail pitch slider. When I do this the tail reponse is pretty slow. Is it correct to overdrive the tail rotor srevo in the same fashion a non-heading hold gyro is set up?

Read the instruction with the heading hold and that should take care of it, regardless if you are new to heli flying I would highly recommend to learn flying without heading hold (just regular dual rate) and start using it when you know how to fly. I believe it will make you a better pilot that way.

Ray,
It would help a lot to know what radio, gyro, and servo you are using. With most heading hold gyros you don't use the atv's to limit throw. The atv's control the pirouette rate and the gyro has internal settings to control the tail throw.

Scotty,
Thanks for the replay
I am using a futaba 8uafs radio with a JR410t gyro and a futaba 3001 servo. I know I am using a low-end servo but it is my concept 30
. The tail seems to hold fine it is just slow. I would like the tail to be a little bit more responsive.

Ray,
I'm not familliar with that gyro but, on most HH gyros you speed up the pirouette rate by increasing the ATVs in the radio on the rudder channel.
Maybe someone with more experience with this gyro will help out here.

im really new to helis....but this would increase speed, sensitivity, travel range,(could be limited by gyro or receiver)
USE A LARGER/LONGER servo horn on the rudder...
maybe stupid idea maybe not....

read and follow the instructions from JR !: http://www.horizonhobby.com/shared/t...10t-manual.pdf
it explains all the settings in the transmitter and linkage.
secondly the 3001 is one of the slowest servos on the market. it doesn't matter how small or big the heli is. if the servo is too slow for the gyro (which is the case) you will never get good results.
regardless: make sure the orientation of the gyro is right, make sure the servo direction is right and make sure the gain is not too high or not high enough.
