I know the people here aren't interested in toy copters like this, but i was hoping to get an answer and didn't know where else to turn. Can anyone tell me how consistant or inconsistant these are from one example to the next in how controllable they are? The reason i ask is that i have a friend with one and he told me it was somewhat hard to control. then it went bad a week or so after he got it and he took it back to RS and exchanged it for a new one which he says is far more controlable.

I intended to buy one online because they're about 1/2 the cost that RS charges. But i worry that if they are very inconsistant as far as how controllable they are from one to the next, buying online might end up being more trouble than it's worth and maybe even costing as much if i have to excahnge it a couple times due to shipping costs. Thanks.

yeah, that's the beauty of buying at a local vendor. The issues more or less what you are talking about are the motors and they vary quite a bit from heli to heli. So buying online you might be fine, or you might have to exchange it. Just make sure if you get it online that you get it from a reliable vendor.

Honestly there are not many forums for this heli over here. Check over at rcgroups. they have forums for this type of heli.

You might also check out the airhogs model called the reflex. It's a pretty durable 3 channel couter rotating model for about $60 bucks

As a former RS Assistant Manager, I would say they all fly about the same. None of them will blow you out of the water compared to the "real deal", but they're an interesting distraction if that's what you're looking for. I never had a good experience with replacement parts from those folks, however, so I wouldn't count on them if you happen to break it.

Ok, lets say i'm willing to go for a heli that less of a toy and pay more. More is fine up to maybe $100 at most. Problem is, i don't think theres anything in the category i would need it to fit in.....a heli about the same size as a mosquito, as easy to fly or very close at least, and not too fast to fly indoors in very confined rooms, say 20x15' areas. Now if there is something like that which would as you say "blow me out of the water", or at least moreso than the RS one, lemmie know and i'll check it out. But from what i have seen there is nothing other than the toy copters (PiccoZ, airhogs, mosquito, etc) that is as small and easy to fly indoors in confined spaces at any cost. Seem to go from the toy right on up to the faster bigger and harder to fly stuff with nothing in between. This is an actual hobby-grade product, not a mere toy like the others. It's perfect for indoors, and is very easy to learn to fly.

you can still fly it indoors in that kind of area very well =) there is also the v4 lama. I would probably recommend one of these two, but if you didn't want to go that way then...

If you are looking for a smaller more durable one maybe try the reflex, same size and price as the misquito, but alot more durable =) Sold at walmart for right around 60 bucks.

Well, i just decided to go with one of those mosquito clones by Alany. $30, so if it's junk it's not too big a loss. The reflex is one i've seen, but i really don't like that foam body. Seems like you're flying the packaging instead of the heli. I do like that lama tho, but i wish it were smaller and quieter. But if the mosquito doesn't work out i may buy a lama anyways. By the way, can those lamas be flown outside in calm conditions, or would a slight breeze thats small enough to barely feel make it impossible as with the toys? I figure if i like helis enough i might want a small beginner's outdoor one, and that one says it has a 300+ foot range, so i would think it's made to also use outdoors in good conditions. So a dual purpose one might be nice if the mosquito bites the dust, which from all account should be after 5 flights or so.

yeah the lama can fly outside after you get experienced in winds up to 5mph tops =)
