Hi Neil,
I'm not expert whasoever, but I have a friend that has that same engine and he is having a lot of trouble tunning it.
I read on different forums to try to help him and found out that apparently is a very well known problem the tunning of this engine.
There is a modification for the carb if you look around you might find it I tried but I don't seemto be able to open the right page
You can read here http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t...ight=os+46+mod
I hope that helps,
On another subject, typing all in Caps is considered shouting (just so you know)

The early one's had a rich mid range when the top and bottom were adjusted correctly. First you need to get the top and bottom adjusted right and then see about the transition through mid throttle. We need a better description than it's running like a bag of spanners....
Basic adjustment is the open the high speed needle about one and three quarters turns and start and hover it. Will it hover? what it the head temp after hovering? Should be 200-220deg F. Is there smoke? What fuel?if it hovers and the temp is good but the idle is off start the motor and get it idling. Hold the head so the blades don'e turn. Pinch the fuel line. It should run normal for 5 seconds before reving and then dieing. Try all this and post what you have...

The early one's had the problem. The fix was to file a "V" in the carb barrel. You need to find out first if your's is running bad just because of poor adjustment before breaking out the grinding wheels and implements of destruction.
I remember there where certain carb numbers involved but I don't remember exactly which one(s).
