I can't tell what happened here. Take a look and see if you can tell. The bell is only about 3 gallons old as is the clutch. I was getting a loud slipping sound when descending the last few flights when I noticed my muffler was loose. When I tightened my muffler it nearly went away and only happened once in a long while in very steep level descents. It looks like the very edge top of the clutch is rubbing the top of the bell, could that have caused the failure?

I also have a problem with the one way clutch bearing slipping when I go to start the engine sometimes. What causes that? I never used to have that problem. I replaced the start shaft but that didn't do the trick. I know for a fact the slipping is coming from the bearings.
Here's another view of the clutch.

There is just no way a V1 clutch would fail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously though, this is very comon for the V1. I don't think anyone actually solved the problem reliably. I agree get a clutch from Quick UK and go on. I preffer the ones with elongated holes machined into them as opposed to the round holes the come with from the factory. Also make sure you use a shim to keep it off the top of the fan. Good luck!

I have a Raptor v1 and have seen using the Quick UK clutch as a a replacement a couple times on the posts. I'm thinking of buying one before my clutch goes, since it seems too common. I have just over a gallon through it only, but would hate to miss a good weekend of flying.
Couple of questions: Do I have to replace the liner and/or bell when I put in a new clutch (assuming it still looks thick enough)?
How do you remove the old liner? Looks like it would be a pain.
Also, what are the results of clutch failure? Can it cause a crash, or does it usually just "lock" up so the blades can't freewheel (which means at least I can land it under power)?
My rappy v1 made a strange clunk or heavy click sound the other day in a hover and I immediately set it down. All 'looks' good but I'm going to pull out the engine and check the clutch assembly to check it. The blades spin freely, but I haven't restarted it to troubleshoot.

I also have a V1. just recently I put in the 3rd clutch at flight 230. I usually carry a spare clutch in my flight box. I think its just a V1
problem. But at $18.00 a clutch I can live with that.

normally you do not need to changer the liner when you change the clutch (unless the liner is all worn out...)
a clutch failure will most likely not cause you to crash, often you won't even notice for a while...
never head a clutch failure nor any flutter on any of my (C)raptors... but other things broke...
