Towerhobbies's Tower Talk states that the Futaba 9CAP (Aircraft Version) has the same programming that would be compatible for a helicopter. There also is the Futaba 9CHF which is the helicopter version and also supports aircraft. Is there anything other then the labeling of the switches on the radio different? Ratchet Throttle vs. Non Ratchet? I ask because there is a $50 difference between both radios.

the transmitters are identical except heli has no ratchet on the throttle (the little click steps), and the switches are laid out slightly differently, with trainer on the right.

I'm not sure but I think the airplane only comes with 4 servo's and the heli comes with 5 servo's.

The cost difference is the servos. The 9CAP and the 9CHP each come with four servos but the 9CHP has better ones. I think the 9CAP can be had with either 3004 or 3001 servos and the 9CHP comes with 9001s. There may be different combinations available, but these are the most common.

I recently had my 9CAP converted to a 9CHP by Hobby Services. They removed the throttle ratchet, changed the switches and faceplate. The cost was around $35 and they completed the job the same day they received my transmitter.
