Hi,
I just started flying my x-cell gasser. Wow why did I not get one earlier. It is so stable but has the juice to doo great FAI stuff. 3d is also with a little horsing. it is heavy but man that 23 habdles it with ease.
Any how I did have a question My tail is a little jumpy it is directly related to engine noise . It seems the engine rpm has spots like a chain saw that it breaks 2cycle to like 4 cycle and the tail seem st jump a bit at these points. anyone else notice this and or have they fixed it with carb adjustments I dont really want to screw with it as they are so sensitive but If i get good advise I may timker a bit thanks !!
Anyone doing really good 3d with thier gasser.
P.S. the jr 550 gyro does not like the gasers vibration as well as that engine rpm fluctuation any advise on that also ???

sounds like its jumping cause its a tad too rich on the low needle, you may wanna try leaning it in very small increments till the twitch goes away.its normal for it to have an ocassional little burp but not an oscillation thats in time w the engine coughing.
Using a non resistor plug can cause this too,ngk bmr7a plugs are optimal for gas helis, bosch, champ, autolite will cause the same condition w the tail, even worse on a ergo gasser.
The 550 works ok,just dont use a 8417 w it........the jumpiness should go away when the machine runs smooth.
Always do carb adustments after the machine has been warmed up or has been running for 3 minutes. The mixture tends to lean out a little after the engine gets warm.
It usually takes a gallon of fuel to get the engine almost past its break in point......
I put some basic gasser info on my website that you may want to read, its basic info, and may answer a few questions and give you a few pointers.like most sites its still under construction <g>.
Hope this gives you some of the answers you been looking for!

Don't worry about the engine running a little rough. It will take a minimum of 11 to 12 gallons before it breaks in and smoothes out.
My Bergen gasser has over 40 gallons of gas through and it runs pretty smooth. The lower part of the tail fin will vibrate about 1/8".
Blade selection is very important with the gasser. Use a very heavy blade. So far the best blade that I have found is the 680MM MS composite FAI PRO. However I emailed Vic at V-blades and he says that he some heavy 3D Blades. The lighter and longer blades will bogg the engine. With the MS 680's you can tumble many times with dropping power.
I believe the correct oil ratio is 5 ounces to 1 gallon of gas. It is written down at the barn so I would have to check on it.
Something else to look out for is the location of the tail drive shaft bushing. Mine had a vibration that drove me nuts for a long time. Recently the tail boom was removed and what happened was the tube became resonant and was hitting the inside of the tail boom. So try moving the bushing closer to the driven end.
If you need any upgrades try www.bergenrc.com he has a cooling system for the excel gasser.
