I was just curious about how many of you guys wear a neck strap on your Tx. I personally wear one, because It helps me to stay consistent with my techique. I have the strap adjusted to allow my arms to extend to a comfortable position, and they stay in the same position each time I fly. I even use it with my simulator, so when learning something new, it will have the exact same feel, with my heli. During the training stages, I was nervous and was choking up with my arms, without realizing it, but as soon as I noticed what I was doing, I extended my arms to stretch out my neck strap, and I imediately began to improve, because my techique was the same as what I learned on the sim.

Apart from the fact that it helps you get a better feel on the sticks, I think one of the main reasons why people use a strap is to support it so you don't need to hold it the whole time whilst flying. You could get a bit tired and when you go and flip throttle hold or an idle up you drop the thing.
I've seen it happen, definitely not a pretty sight! It leaves you with about 2 second to pick it up, find your model, re-orientate yourself and correct.
Anyone who doesn't use one, I would like to hear why. It's ok having co-pilots, fail-safes, training gear and whatever else, but it what about protecting the main control system.

PS: One disadvantage is for fixed-wing pilots who I have seen keep their Tx's strapped on while they are starting they're engine, and then their 12x6 chops through their 3810 or 9c. Seen that happen too!

I wear with helis but not when flying planes. I find it hard to get on while holding the planes. I also do not flip switches on/off as much with planes.

You're kidding!! You'd think more guys would opt for Tx support.
Not only do I use the strap, but I also use a modified version of the pinch techique.( Thumb on top, index finger in front) My control is much better this way.

I'm new to helis and have transferred the 'pinch' from my pattern & 3D fixed wing days....I never considered the neckstrap, but based on the commentary, I think I'll give it a shot at smoothing things out a bit....ThanX

Give it a try tdbone. I believe it will help you stay consistent. It sure has helped me. BTW, the Atlanta Braves are kickin' A** this year aren't they? I'm a big Braves fan.
