Can I use my Futaba 7C plane Tx to fly a heli?
It would save me alot of money if I could. Thinking of getting started in heli. Ive been practicing on the sim and I think the Raptor 50 is easy for beginner like me to fly. Thanks for your replies.

I think you might be able to on a Raptor. I think they have a four point setup with one cyclic servo. You wouldn't be able to on a eCCPM machine, like a Blade 400.

The Raptor 50 is a good place to start and the I've been flying mine for a while with Futaba 7C, 72mghz, and then 2.4gHz. And if you end up with a CCPM machine, the 7C will work just fine.

There's two drawbacks.
One is switch position, the top switches are opposite that what most heli radios have and what heli pilots are used to. Not a big deal but if someone is helping you they will have to think so make them aware.
The other is the throttle ratchet, its a nusance flying a helicopter. The simple solution is to take the back off the radio and flip the little spring clip over and put it back on.
The programming is identical between the H and A version with the exception that the A model defaults to airplanes but it still has full single servo and CCPM support.

Another option is to send the Tx to Futaba hobby services, and have it switch over the heli version. I had this done to a 9c aircraft, they changed the throttle ratchet, swapped the Throttle hold and Idle-up switches, and start-up default to Heli for about 40 bucks.

Thanks for all your replies. I bought the Sceadu 50 instead (HPM). ARF version. Surprised it only took 1 day to build a heli. I set the sub-trims and end points easily. I kinda like the ratchety feeling. Im a plane guy, hehe. Now I have to figure out how to do set the idle up thingy, throttle cut thingy, throttle curves thingy. Darn I hate reading the manual.

You really dont want the ratchet thingy when flying helicopters. What happens is one click up and its slowly climbing and one click down and its slowly desecending, you want the fine throttle control of a smooth stick. Once you get used to it, flying with a ratchet will be like driving on the left side of the road.
