Default "The Wobble" ----------IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK ya'll asked for a REPORT, here it is:

I went out today after making the following changes:

1. REPLACE the worped main rotor.
2. FIXED the rudder drive shaft vibration problem.
3. GOT a new gyro!! Futaba 401!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I took of, lifted it up, and with the training gear on, it started to vigrate/wobble ever so slightly. WELL, just about that moment in time, a car drives up and this guy pops out. HE announces that he just joined the club and asks, "...anyone here fly helicopters?"

My mouth just about fell open!! EVERYONE at my club (old farts) flies airplanes!! So I said I DO!! And asked his level of experience!! He said he's been flying now for about 4 years!!!

So REAL QUICK!! WE became best friends. HE looked over my helicopter, and watched it wobble a little and said that the problem was that the training gear was too heavy for the pitch curve I had chosen!! He suggested I either change the pitche curve, or TAKE OFF THE TRAINING GEAR!!!!!

OUCH!!!!!!! VERY big step for a NEWBY!!!

But at his reccomendation and encouragement. I pulled that trainging gear off!!!!!!

Don't you know that that baby just poped up and hovered there like if it was hanging from a string!!! SHOOT!! I could have hovered it inside my living room!! Tight, smooth, PERFECT!!! NO vigration, NO wobble, PERFECT!!!!

OK, so he ask me to let him fly!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH MAN, DID I EVER want to say NO!!! I did say, "....where's your bird???" Well his is on the bench being built,,,,,yada, yada, yada!!

So with a HEAVY HEART and nervious legs I said,,,,,"SURE".....

So off he goes with MY BABY!!!!

LONG STORY SHORT, he made that thing talk!!! I was SO IMPRESSED!!!! The rest of the day we spent talking, training, etc. I did some ROCK SOLID HOVERING, some forward and backwards. MORE HOVERING!! SO MUCH FUN!!! OH and all of that with the traing gear OFF!!!!!!!!!! YES OFF!!!!!!!!! I feel like I took a gient leap of FAITH today and landed like a CAT with all four feet rock solid on the ground!!!

I BEAMING!!!!!!!!! I can't tell you enough THANK YOU!! THANK YOU !! THANK YOU!!!!! ONE and ALL of you here on this web site!!!!

Tomorrow, I'm off from work!!! I think I'm going HOVER some more!!! Baby steps you know!! Not ready for forward flight yet!!! I just want to get that HOVERING thing down!!!

FINALLY, let me say to anyone who is considering taking up this sport!! IF you get this little VOICE inside of your head, and that voice says, "...NO, don't buy that one, it's too expensive, buy the cheaper one, you know you will mess it up. ONCE you mess it up, then buy the expensive one"

IF you ever hear that voice, SLAP YOURSELF on the side of the head!!! The VOICE IS WRONG!!!!!!!!!! IF you buy the cheap ones, you will be buying PLENTY of cheep ones and you will spend more, fly less, be more agrevated, and still end up with the cheap one. JUST GO OUT and buy the expensive GOOD one right from the start!! IT WILL save you in the long run.

WHAT EVER IT IS: Gyro, engine, frame, rotors, balancer, pitch gage, or heli!!!!!! Buy it right the first time!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again......

I'm going fly!!!!!!!

Default Great

Great Kirk....take your time to learn hovering until it just comes natural to you. Then learn to hover sidesways both ways. Then most will recommend to learn nose in hover before you take off into forward flight. Not mandatory but a good idea. Just take your time and have fun. You might want to consider some lighter training gear for this. Might save you some minor crashes.

Default training gear

I used a 4$ hula hoop and 4 crossed dowels, very light, but still gave me gyro feedback. Dumped it too soon. Paid for it several times. I should have just popped for a better gyro with in-flight adjustment. Get some Very light training gear, use it when learning side hover and nose hover, the first few flights of each.
I still dont do good nose in hover, but I'm working on it whenever I feel froggy. I'm loving loops, rolls and holding inverted at the loop tops a bit now.

Heli's are Pure Adrenaline to me. Lets Fly!!!!
