Hi all,
Remember RCFIREWINGS? Well he's doing fine now and the genuine reason for asking so many questions is because he WAS actually a 14 year old lad who wanted to do well in this hobby and was not a 44 year old man having a laugh.
I don't think Mark would mind me posting this:
I think that is GREAT news and I'm happy for you Mark. I remember when I first started I had loads of question I wanted answering which I found at heli sites. I never knew about this so may be I might of been the same!
I would definitely like to try and help you out if you have any questions about things you get stuck with and I'm sure everyone else will be able to give you a hand too.
So what heli did you eventually end up with?
James

Hi Spurry, My name is Mark and I just wanted to drop
you an email saying that I am doing ok with this hobby
and I am not asking, spamming, and anoyeing other
people by my questions, I guess since it was my first
time in the hobby I wanted the info really badly
because I was excited in this hobby so I asked alot of
questions. But since I have learned so much new info
about this hobby in six months, my rate of questions
have defentily dropped a lot. So I am not bothering
any one and I just wanted to say I'm sorry for going
crazy when I got started in this hobby and thanks for
your help. And if you could just let some of the
people I bothered know that I am sorry for spamming
and those annoying questions that would be all.

we all gave him the best advice we could, which is why this site is so great. I gave up on the beginers forum for a bit until some new questions appeared.
wish i had a dollar for every time i saw the same question. by the way, what heli do you think i should buy?
wont be long until RCFIREWINGS is giving advice anyway. Probably something like "you should have bought a gasser!"

Is R/C flying very popular in Australia? You have the right weather for it

hmmm. the aussie dollar will be a force to be reckoned with
1. when england join the Euro, and
2. when USA decides to split into the spanish speaking and english speaking halves again.
LOL
RC flying is probably not too popular really, my city of 600,000 only has one shop.
capital cities may have bigger stores.
most guys who are in to the hobby would also be in the aerospace industry in someway i guess.
yep the weather is almost always great in queensland, beautiful one day, perfect the next. RC is more of a winter event when the temp gets down to 20 deg C. too cold for watersports..
I have 1 friend that i fly with regularly, and know of about 5 other guys that fly helis in my entire area. dont know what the plankers do or where they do it.
Best part is that its still a very isolated and unpopulated country so you can get away with almost everything. there are not really any rules and regulations other than what common sense dictates. i fly in an area of 2 football pitches side by side in the middle of a suburb and the caretaker has never said anything nor have any of the locals. its a common place for walking dogs, so the occasional mutt will have a go at your machine, (wouldnt like to see the result of a rotweiler and a TSK 60 @ 1800 Rpm!) of course we try not to burn the grass too much with nitro spills and everyone seems happy. caretaker loves a slab of beer over xmas to keep him on side.
Its easy to get 200L of methanol, 40 litres of nitro and 4L cool power oil, so we generally mix our own gas at minimal expense.
a crash is a nightmare, the downtime can be lengthy as parts inevitably have to be ordered from overseas.
hope i've painted an accurate picture. cheers...

he was actually at it again,,, asked the same question a couple of days ago, (still on the electric kick
,,, I just laughed & moved on,,, I think he had 1 reply. Go out & get yourself a helicopter RCFIREWINGS, be it nitro or electric,, and have some fun,,, Then you can ask some "real" questions, which I'm sure everyone would be willing to answer & help you out

Well, its been over 2 days not since he sent me that exact same note and I sent one back asking what model he had and how he was doing with it. Not a word back.
I think he is full of it still. Hate to sound that way, but what can I say.
Wish he would have done it right. I think he would have really enjoyed RC helis. I hope I am wrong and he is having a blast with his helis right now, but.... Well, we just won't go there.
Seems like a good kid though. Took a lot to write to a bunch of us like he did. Bummer things work the way they do.

Vortexgen I think the availability of spares is definitely more tricky in non US locations. UK is not too bad, sounds like you struggle a bit in Aussie.
My buddy and I found a deserted park the size of 4 rugby fields (in London yes!!!) where we fly. No other people, no dogs, no caretakers, no nothing!! Just a flat field with 2 enthusiasts
Enjoy Aussie

Pretty bad. He sent the pictures to me and asked me to shrink them so he could show ja1010 that he actually got a heli. From the things he said, I figured it wasn't his. He seems to be like a friend of mine who did the same thing. Always talked big, but never did anything about it. This friend went into the army and I figured it would straighten him out. It actaully made him worse. Such a shame. He claims to have flown helis in the military, but has no log time or licence to back it. Now he loads trucks.
Best to just do what you set out to, rather than talk about it. I think RCFIREWINGS will learn that eventually. Seems like a good kid, but I don't think he has the backing from the parents that he needs.

Yep. I think his problem is his parents. He's never once mentioned them when asked. Its a shame. It also seems he's an only child, nothing wrong with that, if you have your parents support as well as friends, which I'm not to sure he has either. Anyway, hope he straightens up & "flys right".

I think you are right - a kid his age will need his parent's support for a hobby like this (at least initially).
My old man tried to get me interested in flying planes when I was about 14, but I wouldn't have anything of it! He had a plane you flew on a string in circles. His aviation career came to an abrupt end when the string snapped and the plane flew through the kitchen window whilst my old lady was washing the dishes
LOL
I still cannot understand why RCfirewings did not take ja1010 up on his offer to go and fly his Nexus. Most newbie's without a heli would have given their left ball for an offer like that.

That's a shame! I actually thought this kid had finally got all the info he needed and gone out to the model shop!
RCFIREWINGS/MARK If you are still here and are reading this. Tell us what you have done since your Q+A rampage. I thought 'good for you' when I read that email you sent me and was pleased that another young guy had just started out in the heli hobby, but it seems as if after all this, you might actually be some sad tw*t just taking the wee wee!
I think he might be someone who is a member on here, but joined again as RCFIREWINGS and wanted to pee a few people off cos he doesn't agree with their opinions or something stupid. If he is actually 14, then he should be out looking for a part-time job to buy some fuel already!
I agree with the euro thing! I don't want to join, I love the pound!!! I don't think I was born when all that shillings and sixpence stuff was around, but I don't think I could change from the pounds and pennies.
Anyway, I'd like to hear from you mark so you can explain what you've done with that priceless advice everyone gave you ten times over!
I started when I was your age (about 14) but with a plane, here's what I did, every x-mas/b-day, I'd beg my parents for a new cool toy like RC car or a Playstation 2 etc. Then after two years, I got all my expensive gifts and sold them and managed to scrape enough together for a trainer plane. Then from there, sold that, got a better plane, sold that, got a crappy 20 year old shuttle, sold that, got a nexus, sold that got a raptor 30, sold that...now I have a raptor 60 with OS70!
It can be done if you're on a tight budget, it took me about 3 years to work my way up the ladder and it's bloody great, I'd swap a PS2 for a heli any day.
I had to go that longwinded route as my mum thought it was a pipe dream and all I would ever get was modelling mags.

He sent me an email and said that he is meeting with the guy this week to pick up all the stuff. Supposed to be a picolo. Hope he didn't get screwed. I wouldn't sell a beginner something like that. His money though. I suggested again that he go get help from JA1010 and he refused and said he had help right there, so what do you do. Maybe Bert and Ernie are there helping him hover in the living room. Who knows.

He actually emailed me yesterday and said he was meeting the guy today that he bought it from to get it. I told him to send me some pictures of it and him. Still don't think he picked the right one either way. It will cost him in the long run.
Oh well, if it gets him flying, what the heck.

I would really like to see the first flight if he tries to fly it indoors. That is going to be really messy. The bad part also for him if he tries it, nowhere to run to hide when it comes at him. Not good.
He keeps asking how he can get back on RCU and I told him he has to email mark. He says there is no way so he either didn't do it or they said no. Seems like the saga just keeps going on and on.

I remember that kid. C'mon, we were that age once. Being annoying, snotty, immature and stupid was part of growing up. Remember?
However, he was just a little TOO much of all of the above....
Do they even have room in N.J. to fly helis?

The kid was a waste of time - it was obvious early on but myself and many others tried to offer sound advice NUMEROUS times - it went in one ear and out the other.
Lets not devote any more time to him or this thread and wipe out the memory completely as we're just wasting time, energy and bandwidth.
