I've ordered a new Sceadu 50 and I see it mentioned that it has a new DTDS tail rotor system in it. I can't find anywhere an explanation of what it is or how it improves it. I believe the tail rotor is belt driven but that I can't find mentioned in any sales pitches about it. I've flown a Shuttle ZX for eight years and I don't think I have ever replaced a part on it, so I am sure the Sceadu should be an outstanding Heli like all the post I see about it.

The DTDS is a consant tail drive setup for the Sceadu's.It keeps the tail active when performing autorotaions.
I have a 30 and a 50 and I love mine and I am sure you will love yours.

SENECA is right but a little further clarification I think is that the DTDS drives the tail rotor during autos and engine out situations. With a driven tail you can do all sorts of neat aerobatic auto stuff like Curtis does. Having a driven tail when doing an auto can come in handy at times.
Also you should have gotten the 3rd bearing block for the main shaft with your Sceadu 50. This will add a lot of support to the drive system. The main gear that comes with the DTDS is aslo machined derlin which is better than the molded gear that used to be provided. (that one was prone to stripping)
You're going to love your Sceadu. It's a very high quality machine. I'm going to go fly mine later today.

Thanks guys, I am looking forward to getting it in the air. I have been flying airplanes and helicopters for about 30 years now, taking a very slowed up break here for about the last 4 years. 3 kids take up alot of time but worth every minute of it. My boys are 8 and 10 and I have them practicing on the FMS simulator as often as they want. I told them once they can get very competent on the sim I will let them try my old Shuttle ZX. They are excited.
I take that the Sceadu is belt driven, is this the way most all brands of helis is going now?

Actually it's split pretty evenly between belt drive and shaft drive for T/R. It depends on the manufacturer or designer. Hirobo has traditionally been a belt drive while others like Kyosho used shaft or drive wire. Each has it's own advantage/disadvantage. I have machines with both and the only real difference I've noticed is the belt drive is a bit quieter.
No matter how it's driven, just enjoy flying your heli!
