Default Help! servo replacement

I just ordered a new servo from x-heli will be getting it soon. My question is to replace the servo (its the one that controls the left side of the cylic on a HBK 3.) what else is involved in setting up the servo so it does the same movement as the old broken one used to?

I don't really know how all the mixing is transfured from the Txtransmitter to the Rx reciver because all servos move at the same time to change the pitch of the blades. only one or two move when you control the cyclic. Where is the brain in the heli or the controls.
Im new to RC( have flown friends small co-axelheli got pretty good after a few charges on the battery) and arejust trying to get a better understanding of how everything works together.

Any comments are welcome, Thanks

Default RE: Help! servo replacement

Let's see, I'm no expert but will take a shot an answering.

After you install your new servo, all of the centering and direction of operation is controlled from your radio transmitter. Changing one servo in a group of three, might cause you to need to re-check your swash-plate in mid and full stroke. See video link below. Making sure your swash-plate is level will make your heli hover and fly better/easier.

The mixing is done in your radio transmitter. That's were all the smarts are. For a Collective Pitch (CP) heli like your Honey Bee King, the mixing in the transmitter is called CCPM (Collective Cyclic Pitch Mixing). Causes all three servos to move together to raise your swash-plate (moving blade pitch) along with your throttle. And your cyclic control still works to tilt the swash-plate at the same time if you tell it to ... pretty smart.

Here are some useful videos for setup that might help you. Be sure to watch the CCPM setup parts.

Let us know how this turns out?

Default RE: Help! servo replacement

In theory it's simple but in reality it seldom is. If it is replaced with an identical servo it should have the same rotation direction. EXACTLY where the servo centers is usually a little off but for most applications it's a minor trim change as long as you get the servo horn on in the right place.

After you take the old out and put the new in turn on yuor radioand helo and put the horn on where it will be the closest to get the swash level. use sub trims from there to get it as good as you can see it. This is assuming you are using the same servo as the bad one. Most of the small helos the end points isn't really used as they are not that pickey.

Double check directions though or it'll be a wild first flight.
