Hirobo Freya thoughts???
My $.02,
Fury, OS 90 or YS 80. Engine is a toss up. I got my Nexus last year and immediately wanted a bigger heli. It took me till this spring till I could afford a 60 size. I was trying to keep the cost down but there wasn't but about $100 between the cheapest 60 and what I considered my dream heli. (Fury extreme wasn't out yet) Most of the cost is in the rest of the hardware. I got the Fury basic as I knew it could be upgraded to the Expert if I got to the point I felt I needed it. I got the OS 61 and wish I had went ahead and spent the extra 30-50 dollars for the 80 or 91. I don't need the power now but I know I will want it eventually. I don't have any experience with the Freya but I am more comfortable with parts I can work on and am familiar with. I am a toolmaker and with only a few exceptions, I could see making about any part on the Fury and modifying parts as needed. With the Freya being mostly molded, you can't do much with it. One advantage the Freya has is vibration absorbtion. The plastics are far better than G10 and aluminum at absorbing vibrations and fatiguing. With all the stuff rotating on a heli, it's gonna vibrate. The Freya will more than likely seem to be easier to cure balance issues as it will absorb a lot whereas the Fury will tend to resonate from the littlest vibration. Fortunately they are made so accurately, with a little careful work they come out near perfect anyway. My opinions only. Plus you got Rick handy who is already familiar with Furys. That's got to be worth something! Good Luck whichever way you go. ,,,basmntdweller |

basmntdweller, you are a mind reader, I'm scared of you. Just as I was surfing the Web looking at the Fury Extreme, I got the email from RCU, and here you are talking about the exact Heli I'm looking at.
I just finished speaking to Rick, and we spoke on the Fury Expert, but I think I'm going to talk to Rick again and maybe go with the Fury Exteme with the OS91. I know some of you are gonna probably say that this is too much Heli, but as I said before, this is going to be my Ultimate Heli, and I know Rick can fly it, and get me used to it, I just have to talk to Rick again and see what he thinks about this setup. Since the extreme is only $200 more than the expert, it seems you get $200 of upgrades for it, sounds like a good deal. and the OS91 isnt that much more than the OS61. what do ya think? Daz... |
Hirobo Freya thoughts???
FWIW, guys I've spoken to with <hands-on experience> with both engines prefer the YS; and YS has a 91 coming out for those who are number-conscious.
Hope you got a pal at the fuel store... Steve |
Hirobo Freya thoughts???
That's exactly what I was trying to get at! If you or I were to fly an Extreme, a Fury basic or a Freya around that had been fully setup like any of the top flyers would want it, Neither of us have the skills yet to really tell the difference. I'd bet they'd all have virtually the same hover and mild forward flight feel. But if we keep progressing, the Extreme will in time start to stand out better than the others. Buying the Extreme isn't too much heli, It's how it's setup that makes it too much heli. I know my Nexus was real sloppy but I'm guessing it wasn't a whole lot better when new. The first time I lifted off my Fury I couldn't believe how much better it felt. I will do many more hovering maneuvers with my Fury that I won't do with the Nexus because I don't feel comfortable close in with the Nexus. I'm still too cash conscious to go for full forward flight with the Fury but not too worried about dumping the Nexus.

Fury
Daz,
You CANNOT go wrong with a Fury. They are fantastic fliers. Just don't put it in. Cause when you do you will get to experience the joy of emptying a wallet quite nicely! :( That is the ONLY reason that I sold my Fury. My current financial status is not to friendly to $200 w/o mainblades included crashes. Which is what a Fury will cost you for most average FF crashes. If the $ is not an issue then you are making a great choice. While plastic has it's advantages in cost and crash resilience it also gives you a shorter life heli. Slop is inevitable. So, the old saying of "You get what you pay for.." is spot on accurate in this hobby. So get that Extreme and fly it silly if that is what you want. Can't say it enough. You just cannot go wrong with the Furys. |

Lift, I have decided to go with the Freya/YS80 combo. The fury seems a litttle to complex. Daz...

Choice
Good choice. You will need to use high nitro fuel, 20% or higher. Most people run 30%. YS's are designed for higher nitro.
I added a Perry pump to my OS 91. Works flawless. 15% nitro as well. Best of luck! With the YS 80, you will need the 93/11 gearing. |
Fury or Freya?
What's better, the Fury or Freya heli? In all honesty, who cares what anyone flies. They are all man made RC helis and all fly essentially THE SAME! They all have a RC system, gyro, engine, main and tail rotor blades... Stop acting like BABIES!!!
Choose either the Fury or the Freya, they both start with the lette "F" but the Fury is a four letter word, which may sway your decision!!! |
