How can I apply clear coat to a Nexus Canopy? I did a search and it is recommended NOT to use cans....so how can I do this without going to a Body Shop?

The clear coat I use is a two part enamel that is PUT into a can from an automotive paint store. It works very well. There is only one place that does this in my area. Of all the clear coats I have used over the years NONE have lasted, all had turned yellow or just melted execpt for the two part automotive clear.

I am going on two years with 25%-30% fuels and no signs of wear.

Dru.

P.S. I was told that the can was good for only two or three days before it would harden inside the can.

I agree with blvdbuzzard. Any 2 part clear has a catalyst added to make it harden. Once you put it in a spray can you are very limited before it turns to a rock in the can. If you can find a place local to mix it up for you you should be good to go.

You know it's not the mixing of the clearcoat that kills you its the breathing the spray particles that then react in your lungs. Leave the automotive clear coat to someone with the proper safety equipment.

a respirator is all you need and it is about $30-$40.
i am surprised joe did not mention that, but i am sure it is included in the instructions.
smoking kills you... driving in a car kills you... living in L.A kills you...
clear coating one canopy won't... but still: USE A RESPIRATOR designed for painting !!!

Or better yet, just spend 5-6 bucks and send it to me and I'll clear it. 15 bucks plus return shipping to your door. Just drop me an email. I'd recommend Joe normally but he is on baby duty for a bit! I paint canopies, but I won't advertise here. Just email me if you are interested.
Thanks,
Wade
