The nose down picture of the B-24 is from my old outfit. The airplane belongs to the 304th Bomb Wing, 454th Bomb Grp., 736th Bomb Sq. 15th AF based at San Giovannii Airfield, near Cerignola, Italy.
I was in the 739th Sq.

P.S. I don't think this belongs in the humor column. Three people died in that "OOPS". The only place I don't want to hear "OOPS" is in a Doctor or Dentist office, or just before going into surgery.

I seriously doubt the post was intended to poke fun at the deceased. The majority of those pics are indeed big oops pics and I'm sure the original poster was more enthused about those then the FEW pics where we know ppl died. I think the spirit of the post is self explanatory. However, I will cede this: I think it would be better to separate humor plane pics from pics involving death. Even though you don't see the deceased, I think those type of pics should be approached with more reverence and not lumped in with the humorous pics.

The guy in the A6 accident lived. The canopy latch was weakened by so many carrier landings. He was save by two things, the pilot, and the fact his shroud tangled on the tail keeping him from being impaled by the broken canopy glass on landing. Do a search for the story, it's amazing.
What's up with the partial quote? How about this, "Even though you don't see the deceased, I think those type of pics should be approached with more reverence and not lumped in with the humorous pics." Something wrong with that statement? If so, please explain.
*I knew I would be shaking a stick at a hornets' nest defending someone else*

I was just pointing out what I thought was an inconsistency. Not that you were lying! I'm not angry about the list. I just think it's a little tasteless in the manner of presentation.
Glad he lived, and I will look up the story. Thanks for the info.

Maybe we can have this thread moved to the Full Scale forum?

...you know, I'm not sure now. I remember seeing the pic on another site. "747 decompress" right? It could also be a photo shop trick. Either way I don't think anyone got hurt.

The F-14 knife edge shot was neither a dumb pilot stunt nor a photoshop job. It was a planned photo shoot with Dale Snodgrass, considered the Navy's very best, at the stick. He was not flying a knife edge but was flying a planned turn with an almost 90 degree bank. The manuever was planned so that the apex of the turn would put him in photo position right alongside the ship. It seems to have worked exactly as the F-14 demo pilot planned.

It was a test performed to simulate the effects of a few ounces of C4 explosive at altitude (don't remember the pressure they chose but not too high). The pressure differential and a tiny bit of C4 did that. I cannot remember if it was a few ounces or grams of C4. The lesson learned...it takes VERY little to cause total failure. (i don't remember crap, do I...LOL)
