Default Starter O-ring sticking

Got a question for the starter gurus.

The o-ring on the electric start from my Wren 54 is gettin stuck to the turbine nut during startup and even into the running stage. ie the o-ring is sticking to the nut which keeps the clutch engaged which slows down the enginer, big flames, hot starts yada yada. Of course it gets stuck during cooldown too.

I've tried cleaning it off with water (o-ring and the nut) but no luck. Should I use something different to clean the nut and o-ring or apply a minute amount of silicon grease? Or is a new o-ring the answer?

Thanks for any advice..

Hank

Hy Hank!

I have any weeks ago the same problem on a homebuild starter.

I cleaned the o-ring and the nut with spiritus.

If your o-ring is worn out it is better you replaced him and clean also the nut.

Hi, you might want to also check and make sure the the Bendix gear is not sticking in the out position. Scott

Are you shorting the motor across the poles when you turn off the starter, this will allow the bendix to snap back.
also make sure the starter is sat square to the nut, so it hits straight on during spool up ( and down)

hope this helps
