Miniature piano hinge availability
Unfortunately Nelson Hobby Specialties is going out of business and so far no buyers.
He sells the brass plated piano hinge that works so well on many jets. I understand even the Large A-10's uses them.
Anyone know where else we can find this?

Oh, that's a bad news. I love these hinges.

I think the next best source is going to be something like a dollhouse supply store like this:

If you guys need small and good quality individual hinges these items I have used on a few builds and are really good, nice thickness to the brass so you can drill holes for fixing etc, work good on hatches, doors etc..

Drop a PM to rcjets_63, he found some overseas I do believe.

I tried McMaster (their smallest is 3/4") and doll house places but didn't have any luck (which is why I went with Grumania). Looking forward to seeing any other suppliers suggested here.
Thanks,
Jim
Edit: D-uh, didn't think of Lee Valley (OMG, how did I miss that piece of Canadiana). Thanks Thomas for the suggestion. I just ordered some of the 12mm and 16mm hinges. When they get here, I'll post some comments about them.

I bought a couple of meters of at [link=http://www.grumania.com/xtcommerce/product_info.php?info=p129_Piano-hingeMini-.html&XTCsid=b626b7f77a82c7cc4dc27671023289d3]Grumania Jets[/link]. The price is 16.66 Euros/meter ($20/yd or so). That's a good price but the issues with the product are that (naturally) it arrives rolled up so you have to straighten it and, more importantly, it's only 9mm (0.35 inches) wide and that makes it particularly difficult to work with. I attached them with glue and screws and you have to use tiny, tiny screws. The Nelson hinges were wider and were much easier to install).

I kinda wish one of the parts/accessories companies (DuBro, Great Planes?) would come out with hinge strip material, ie, piano hinges of the nylon/plastic they currently use, but extruded in the shape of a piano hinge... It would be perfect for better scale landing gear doors, attaching cowling covers, etc, while staying lightweight. [8D] Heck, selling them in 6 inch lengths would be fine by me!
