the FEJ standard quality - poor []

here is my build thread, only a few pics and in german. It´s not much to wrote, the same to do as an every other FEJ oder China model.

The thrust pipe is changed to a lighter from turbo didi, also i changed the 4 fule tanks to one big.

but, look here:

The FEJ F-100F is a excellent flying jet. I found the construction quality to be very good for the cost. My issue was the same as with almost all of their jets ie the LG didn't function properly. Eventually a solution was found which involved placing an individual retract valve and air supply for each strut. Admittedly, a PITA, but I love the way the jet flies, very similar to the BVM F-100.

The landing gear mounts in the wings is structurally weaker than it should be for a jet of this size & weight, IMO, but if you're careful with your landing speed you'll be fine.

Hi David, overall do you think the FEJ F-100 is a good model. The price is very good but my other two jets are from Skymaster.

I do not know what the current price for the F-100F Pro Pkg is at this time. But, if they are still selling it for less than $4k, the lesser the better, I'd say go for it. As I mentioned before, put a separate valve & air tank on each LG strut, add another air cylinder on each main gear door & when doing your install keep everything as far to the rear as you can get away with(it tends to be quite nose heavy). You will be very happy with the flight characteristics and the presence this jet has in the air! Swept wing fighters just look sexy, IMO and there are currently no other mfg building the F-100 in this size anywhere close to this price point. The key is to get the LG functioning consistently and you'll have a ball with this jet!

You may want to consider changing over to the electric gear from Down and Locked...the control box also has a door sequencer built in to it! I have been using it for the last 5 months and it works perfectly. You will be very happy with the conversion!

We have sold several of these kits and they do fly wonderful (including mine!!). As Dave mentioned, there was a problem witht the gear on the early ones but now that the gear is made "in house" things have been fine. I still think Dave is right about the air system or you can have it converted to electric as Tommy has done. I think it's a great idea.
Let me know if you need any help with it.
Thanks,
Lowell

Why not fix these gear so that they operate on one air system?

This may have been accomplished on their newer kits, but, my experience is with one of the early models. I don't know that they changed them. This is just how I finally got mine to work.

You'd have to ask that question of James.

i will tell you i have an FEJ F-100 and was very impressed with the flying... i usually have smaller Jets and this was the first time flying something a little bigger and in the first few seconds i was enjoying it..i put 3 back to back flights on it that day.. The landing was in a cross wind and handled awesome a bad gear door servo made me fly gear down but they did work great.. Down and Locked did my F-14 gear just because i wanted to see what they are all about and they are cool i will post video of that later cool... Hi Bill,

did you fly the original CG 400mm from leading edge?

There is a big difference between the FEJ CG and the Skymaster F100 CG.

regards

Jörg

Jorg,

I set my CG at the factory recommended location and have never changed it. The jet flies quite well at that position.

The SM F-100 is smaller so a mm to mm comparison doesn't apply. However, the BVM is the same size as the SM and the recommended CG is proportionally about the same on the FEJ. I've owned both the BVM & FEJ and really couldn't tell much difference at all in their flight characteristics. Excellent for both.

Joerg,
I did set mine to the factory specs and as Bill said it was right on. The plane fly's like a trainer.
Enjoy it and let us know if you need anything or help with it.

Dave, just for info, I have designed a custom set of retract walls for FEJ big jets mains. Made from 2025 mil spec aluminium alloy from McMasterCarr and machined to my specifications.
Large bronze axle with fail safe design. Way stronger than the original walls ( not cheap though )...
Been working like a breeze on my heavy metal F-18F for the last year ( and it's been withstanding a couple of hard landings with authority )
