Punch it?
Yeah, Corey's actually a great singer, but I don't know how he'd sound as a soprano, so I'm glad he didn't get a radio glitch/throttle surge right then, too...

All is well with day one at The Best in the West! We had 31 registered pilots. not bad for the first day!
Other than a few complaints about lack of airspace, we all had a great day of jet flying. There where no crashes or major mishaps.
I hope to see the rest of you tomorrow. Thanks again for all of you supporting this event.

Hey guys,
What did you think of Best In The West? What did you think of the Jets? What did you think of the flying space? I thought everything was nice, except for the flying space it was a little tight. But, I had a great time!

Best DF - Addison Clark Jr - BVM Ultra Viper
Best Scale Flight - Corey Reese - Avonds F-15 Eagle
People's Choice - John Redman - BVM Mig-15
CD's Award - Jason Somes - BVM Bobcat XL
Best Finish/Markings - Bill Brundle - BVM Balsa Bandit T
Tad's A-37 Dragonfly and Joe McBride's Yellow F/A-18 also won awards but I can't remember which ones..
I found the airspace to be a little tight but very flyable. I had a blast. Jason let me wring out the BVM Bobcat XL for a couple flights, Mike Hemperly Jr let me fly his BVM Bandit V, and Tony Frakowiak let me burn a few gallons of Jet-A through his RAM 500 powered Std Bobcat on Friday.
Other than the flying space which WILL be resolved for next year, the only complaint from me was the hazy visibility and that's just not something anyone can do anything about

Great event guys. It's hard to believe that a great event could be only an hour away. Guess this is going to spoil us when we're faced with the 6 & 7
hour drives to St. George, UT/Fresno-Madera/Mesa, AZ, etc. The OCMA site was perfect, especially for those seamingly unlimited vertical guys. It truly was enjoyable getting together with familar faces and meeting new ones also.
My son could not be more estatic over his first "official" event as a pilot.
After his garnering of the "Best Scale Flight" award, I jokingly requested help in compressing his head so it would fit in the car for the ride home. Fabulous job Mike, Bill, Larry and all the support staff. First class event, and one that I know will become one of the country's premier events. Thanks to John Redman for giving Corey some stick time on the Bobcat. Now the 12 year old is houndin' me for a Tam Jet Pipe with that other thing in front of it for his F-15...thanks alot. Jason, Joe and all you other envelope nudgers...great show, as always. My buddy Mark Padilla, I am so proud of the way you handle yourself, and your spectacular heli show on Sat. more than made up for Sunday's shorter demo. In fact, you'd need five more spectacular crashes to match Saturdays' amazing performance. You should be proud. Shaun, way to belt out the anthem. Fitting beginning to a great day.
Again, great event to all involved and, thrilled to have been a part of it.

I had to jump into the archives to get a picture of Addison, he seem to have his anti-ray-dar up during the event. Also I didnt have a good one of Jason by himself, so I used the image my daughter shot.

Hey Bill,
Have you decided yet if you are going to put the gulls logo on the side of your awesome BVM Bandit? If you haven't already got the E-Mail my dad will probably send you an e-mail showing you what it would look like with the logos on it. I can guarantee that it would look awesome!

Corey,
I will await the e-mail from your father with anticipation. I think that the logo would be very appropriate. Hey by the way congrats on the trophy. Will you be heading to St. George?

Hey Bill,
I will remind my dad on the logo, thanks for the congrats. No doubt I will see you in St. George. How much would a balsa bandit be with my DF in it? I was lookin' at your bandit from pics. and I was just dreaming what it would be like to have one with my df in it. I WANT ONE!
