RE: Twin P200 SX project
The shoot required a chase car that the camera man could hang out of, whilst having a decent turn of speed. So one Porsche Panamera turbo seemed perfect for the job.

They must be useing Turbine Bearings for the wheels in that thing.... Those wheels arn't much bigger thar the Turbine wheel on those 200's !!!!!! I would hate to loose a tire on that sucker !!!!! Does it have a drag shoot???? Lloyds of London wouldn't touch that operation with a 10 foot pole !!!!![X(]

P.S.... Remember the Ambulance in the photo.... Hold that thought !!!!

RE: Twin P200 SX project
I actually put two of the wheels onto the trucks, and they were riding on what looked to be a pretty standard ball race.. Although they were sealed. The wheels were vented, and I would be very surprised if one were ever to come off!
The entire project was fully insured ( Even me, and I was standing on the side of the runway) I know, as I had to do a risk assessment. Lord knows how much it cost mind! Yep. Two lots of firefighters, and medics were on standby. Even the local medical helicopter was on standby.
Your welcome Vince.
Regards Al

I hope you guys had a ball doing this job & things kept moving.
I was involved in the shooting of a Korean TV commercial with models in
Oz & most of the day was spent playing the waiting game.
I can't complain, the on site catering was great! - John.

No Danno dear, The Tx is for operating the smoke system. I figured that the rider would have enough to do with trying to hang onto this thing, and operate the the throttle and steer it with just the weight shift of his feet at over 100 MPH. So I elected to make the smoke operable by remote control.
The hardest part of the entire build for me was masking the 2x P-200's so they could operate from a throttle that was not radio control, and that the rider could operate with a small enough movement that meant he did not have to let go of the handle bars. A throttle that also had a spring return to idle, and a dead mans switch that helped set what was idle, and in the case of an emergency shut both turbines down immediately.

Ali,
I get it now... Thanks for clearing that up. I couldn't imagine riding that thing and not be in control. Even with that said, Ya'll are still crazy... AND I LOVE IT !!!!! I did a bunch of crazy stuff in my time, but luckly the technology and the money could not keep up with my needs for adventure !!!! I ended up just tearing and blowing things up. Tearing stuff up still takes alot of imagination, but can be done on a small budget !!!!
Good luck to the whole team, Keep us posted !!!!

Sooo...how did you solve this problem? Not that I would ever do anything similar

I could tell you. But....
The sound from in front was actually not that bad. We did a bunch of full power checks to make sure the fuel system could deliver at full draw and still make 112K RPM ( As I had it set up so both tanks drew fuel from one single tank). Behind it was another story!
Danno.
No worries. Although I must tell you, that the first Luge we did, that had a single P200 on board was remote controlled. I was hanging out of a chase car, while controlling the turbine. In some ways that actually worked better, as I could be smoother on the power, and the madman ( sorry I mean Luge rider) could focus on keeping it in a straight line.
Thanks for you good luck, wishes, but I have a feeling that this will be it for the Luge project. Even the pro luge rider looked a bit scared after a short burst of full power

Wonder how much the carbon costs in the luge?

RE: Twin P200 SX project
Nope... They were not paying me enough to hang out of a Panamera Turbo with a TX in my hands [X(]
Not sure about raw materials, but I did ask the boss of the composite company who made the luge, how much it would cost to make if I were to walk in off the street and asked them to make me one. ( As the TV show did ) He worked it out that there would not be much change out of £30000.00!
