RE: Where would you prefer to live in Florida??
I have friends that live on an airpark in Naples, and they love it there... They're not into RC but have told me there are several RC clubs in the area...
I have driven through SW Florida and can attest that it's beautiful;-) To me Florida is the mecca of RC... you'd be good anywhere there;-)
Good luck...

The biggest problem about moving to the USA, is being allowed to live there. Unfortunately, residency is difficult to obtain. Anywhere in Florida would suit me .

I'm not to sure about Naples, I saw a lizard the size if an alligator jump out of the shrubs walking into a very nice eating establishment and attack a 80 year old women with a walker !!!!!... All hell broke loose !!!!! Her husband beat the hell out of it with his cane. I couldn't believe it !!!!... That being said. I'm from Clearwater originally and although it's a great place, I kinda like Ladurdale and Boca Raton ... It's all nice !!!![8D]

The big problem with the fort myers,Naples area is the unemployment is sky high and for closed houses all over. On the other hand the houses are cheap. I am biased I love the Tampa area lived here all my life and hate being on the road in any other city. The big problem with the Tampa area is finding a feild for turbines. They are few and far between-atleast ones with a decent size runway. Right now I drive an hour north to Ocala to fly its the best feild around the Tampa area for jets. And they are very jet friendly and the feild is not going anywhere.

They got those same lizards on the other coast also. Its to cold in the tampa area for them. I can rememeber last winter when a nasty cold front came through some one made a video of those big lizards falling out of trees because their blood got to cold. Was funny as hell.

The only drawback I see to living in FL. are the hurricanes that happen...and happen too frequently for my taste, but it IS beautiful there.

Hi Tor, If money is no issue, I would recommend Naples/Bonita springs. That is a beautiful area with many amenities. As you go north on the coast, the cost of living seems to decrease through Fort myers, port charlotte, nokomis venice and then it starts to increase as you hit sarasota and move up towards tampa. I live in port charlotte, we can fly jets off a paved runway in cape coral and a grass field in punta gorda. There are 2 paved runways for jets just 30 minutes north of us in venice and sarasota. Basically, I have 4 flying fields within a 45 minute drive, 3 of which are paved. Good luck. Alex.

Been spending a good deal of time in the Gulf Breeze / Pensacola Beach area and it's as nice a place as any with several jet friendly fields nearby.

Forget Florida! I was born in Miami, and have lived in WPB, Orlando. If you want to live in a world of urban sprawl and endless traffic congestion go for it. I now live in Ga, my home is 9 mi above the Ga/Fl line, 35 mi from Tallahassee, in Thomasville. We have a great medical center, can reach any place in town within 10 minutes, only 90 min from the coast, and the city also provides me a flying field at no charge 10 min from my home. Come check us out.

Actually, I live about an hour north of Tampa, but I would love to leave this state. It is not user friendly. By that I mean tax-wise and home insurance-wise, very costly!! Not to mention the mole infestation in my yard, weed problems, St. Augustine grass problems, heat and humidity in the summer. I'm looking to move to Arizona, even with their set of problems. Wanna buy a boat?

I would suggest looking into the North Florida/Panhandle area. I have lived in Tallahassee for 35 years and my family and iIlike it a lot. We have an active RC club here with a nice grass field. And if you are not flying then try fishing the flats - it's great up here.

Dear Icepilot:
Before you move permanently, try out several areas.
With the housing situation now in Florida it is easy to rent for short terms.
Hop around the state, look at many different areas, then decide.
When you do decide, rent for 6 months to a year, then buy.
This way you avoid expensive mistakes.

if you come to clearwater there are 2 clubs .I belong to both.they will be here years to come the county and city of largo are very supportive!
If you go to sarasota you will have several top notch sites as well.take a look at triple creek...north of me is more rural and very nice .also many clubs and I have visited and flown at several.west pasco hernando field 52 all great sites!
naples is nice but pricey!
stay away from st.pete.sounds nice but my opinionis that its nore like a big city and lots of crime.just lost another cop today the third one in less than a month.
me personally I like the gulf weather wise.florida as a state tends to be backwards and redneck ..employment is difficult and the politics are harsh . but if your retired it is tolerable but the summers are brutual and I go north for a few months to escape.but 8 months possibly 9 are pretty good.
