After flying for about 4 or 5 months now at the pave runway with out one mishap I was force to go to the local grass field to fly my super reaper with wren 54. Never had one flight mishap before today. My super reaper just don't fly that well off the local grass field,it's just not made for turbines.I clip the top of a tree and only had minor damage but still with safety in mind I think i'm going to sell it.I wish I had a safe place to fly it but because I don't ,it was a great time and I hate to see it end but so is life.Ten years ago there were four great fields to fly at today there is almost none.

Yea,
I wish it was that simple. The pave runway is long enough and wide enough but they recently built a ware house on the end of it.This park is very big so why they would put the warehouse there is just plain stupid. The grass field is to short and to ruff, the times I flew there I just made it up...........then a tree finally reached up and grab me.

Are there no other flyers in your area? Maybe try to find some nearby to get together, and start a club somewhere. Maybe there's a nearby farm with a good spot. You could always persuade the farmer with a little monotary donation.

Strong,
Dont sell your engine, put the Wren into something else, like an AV8R, or something that is easy to get off the grass. I have retired my Reaper also for the same reason (untill next seaon when its getting a larger engine) but am flying my WRen 54 in my SPAD jet. I will build the AV8R as soon as the kit arrives (any day now) and if its anything like the guys I talk to say, its a good grass, short field jet...
There is allways a solution, you should see where I have to fly from sometimes!!

ajcoholic,
Maybe I will wait until you build and fly your AV8R.If it dose ok then I will try that model.I really don't want to get rid of my wren because I like it a lot but so far the grass field is no good for turbines.

Well, after a year of flying my Super Reaper (some great times, some not so good due to long grass and bumpy conditions) I put my Wren into the Spad jet I built a few weeks ago and its awesome. I started a thread here and asked about the AV8R, got MANY great replies (a lot personal replies not on the board) how it flies well, and most importantly is easy to get on and off a small rough field.
Also, there are some other good prospect models coming up soon, the fellow in the UK that has the boomerang is comin out with a smaller version (for 12 pound thrust engines), Bruce Tharpe is coming out with a nice looking bird later on this year also, for the 12 pounders. Others exsist also, but the AV8R has the most impressive response so far for grass short field ops.
I will be posting something later on this fall (hopefully in the beginning of Sept) when I get my AV8R built and test flown. I will be happy to share anything I learn with you!
Like I said, there is a modelout there for your needs, just have to find the right one...
