want to buy a turbine jet
Hello
There are no one in my club that flies turbine jets, but i want to buy one.
I fly warbirds and am pretty good since i have done it for a while.
So my biggest obsticle for me is my field ,which is not more than about 300 feet grass. see it here in the movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIQqIkWk9b8
Do you guys think that i can fly turbine jets from this field?

RE: want to buy a turbine jet
boomerang will get in there no problem my field is smaller than that so if i can you can, but find a club that has a jet pilot just so you can ask a few questions

That`s great
How about scale jets like skymaster f 16 / f 15 / f 18 / rafale ? Or delta canard types like Rookie and Super Reaper ?

You were doing something wrong then Mike, I can get the Elan in shorter than I ever could the Sprint and found it a nicer jet to fly.

No chance, the airframes denoted above require a long flat approuch, do yourself a big favour and go see an experienced jet flyer, even if you have to travel a long way it will be cheaper than breaking your first jet, Unless you buy yourself a Boomerang Nano or Sprint,

Good post Mike. You posted exactly what I was thinking when I read that.
That is a very tight/narrow field for anything scale... even the Wulf came to rest 'off' of the runway edge (Yeah, I know it's a prop/ taildragger, so don't give me any heat for my comment )
BTW, a Reaction 54 or X would be a safe choice in addition to the small Boomers.

Ok , sounds like some good advises! I found the ''Avonds F-15'' in another thread , will that one also be to diffiicult?

With the patch you showed on your video, FORGET SCALE AS YOUR FIRST JET sorry to be so blunt, but I don't wish anyone to have an unhappy start to the wonderful world of turbine thrust.
Go to somewhere you can see them operate and judge for yourself.

As stated before, unless you like repairing planes, stay away from a scale jet for your first jet with such a small field. You WILL damage it. Even the best turbine guys have a hard time landing a scale jet on a 300' runway. I watched your video and I wouldn't fly any of my jets at that field.

Take the advice, you really don't want to have a bad experience right off the bat. Get a Boomerang Elan , fly the hell out of it and have fun. Then move to the scale stuff that you can fly at jet meets with nice runways. I have a Boomerang Elan with a Jet Central Falcon that has over 165 flights on it , Never a problem with it, super reliable, flys fast or slow, Go to the field ,fuel and fly ,5-6 flights without charging. Good Luck , Jack.

Being in Norway I assume you have a normal size car or SUV to transport your airframes around, look at the different size's of airframe you can get into your car mostly rigged, no fun rigging in the snow, ice or cold, I can get my Sprint with booms and elevator attached into my X5 with the seats down, there is no way I could do that with my Elan, big plus point to me.
Like you I have a restricted site to fly from, this needs wheel brakes to be on whilst the turbine is spooled up, half flap deployed, once the wheels start to drag on the grass the brakes are let off and away we go, according to what turbine you have a Sprint with a P80 size turbine will take off in very short order an Elan with the same turbine will run on quite a way further before it can take off, now think about the opposite senario, the residue thrust from a turbine can be quite high, therefore the Sprint will still be flying with a small amount of thrust, the Elan will be comming down with the same amount of thust, therefore you will need flaps which can be deployed to 90deg's or thereabouts to act as airbrakes and ailerons that will go up at the same time to put washout on the wingtips to help prevent tip stalling, I think you may by now be getting the idea of how you can overcomplicate these things.
The only jet I would fly on your site comfortably is my JetCat P20 Toki Ducty, that would be no problem, the Sprint maybe after a site acclimatisation, but the Elan NO.
