Dh 110 video today
I thought you might like to share in some video of Mick Burrell flying his now venerable Dh 110. We went to the very restricted area of North Weald and he did a shakedown flight prior to Weston Park. He gave a great display of nice slow controlled flying which also made the video easier to film. The plane, I believe, has a pair of JetCat P120 engines. The plane is a traditional scratch build of balsa and ply with some carbon strengthening.

A great piece of filming John thanks, you did well to keep it in frame, how you kept up with that Habu I really don’t know well done!
The DH110 is the second prototype for the Sea Vixen. The model is 1:6.3 scale and is eight foot span eight foot three long and weighs nineteen kilograms, is powered by two JC 120SEs. The model has had a number of different engines during its fourteen years of life from a pair of KJ66s, a pair of Sophia J850s to one J850 and one Jet Cat P120 to the Pair of Jet Cat P120 SEs it has now.
It is equipped with electric landing gear of my own design, the model as I think you can see is a delight to fly.
Again well done John.

Mick
Nice to have some close slow flying to film rather than the full bore flying we often see. Any way filming is much easier than the flying!

Thanks Selleri, you’re my best advert!
Hi Keith, the gear is my own design was installed at the original build fourteen years ago and has never failed.
The leg is controlled by a 45degree link which is rotated by a toothed belt driven gear, this larger gear is driven by a 136G retract servo with the pot removed (it’s incorrect calling it a pot it is actually an end travel switch) and replaced by two end travel micro switches, that way the gear controls the servo travel not the other way round. The servo rotates three and a half turns for full travel so the mechanism has immense power, also the gear deploy speed is the same as the retract speed.
Another feature is the aileron servos are inserted through the rear of the wing and are a push fit between the rear spars. Servo reaction is controlled by a tongue on a ball race under the disc which is secured by the aileron pivot hinge rod.
Four pictures of the aileron control.
Two of early construction and one of the landing gear mechanism.
