Default FEJ 1/7 scale F-14 missile/tanks set?

Has anyone ever had a the external fuel tanks and missile/pylons made for one? Also the F-14 had 4 pheonix missiles as well. I know someone could make these pretty easy but I dont know anyone who fabricates stuff like this.

The external fuel tanksare available from FEJ and are pretty scale.

The (rockets) missilesfrom FEJ are nice but not scale. They have Sidewinder and Sparrow. Phoenix are NOT available. I will make my own...

Main problem was that the missileholders from FEJhave totally wrong angles. The lowermissile stationsare angled inboard and the outer upwards. In my opinion they should be 90° angled downward and outboard.

Rockets? I flew Tomcats for over 20 years and I'm sure that rockets were not part of the ordnance load. Phoenix in the tunnel (fuselage between the intakes), Sparrow either in the tunnel or on the shoulder stations and Sidewinder on the pylons on the shoulder stations. Standard load for us was external tanks, two Sparrows and two Sidewinders on the shoulder stations.

Gus

Hi, please excuse my mistake. In German the word for missile is "Rakete". Quite ease to make this mistake I was talking about missiles NOT rockets...

Actually, your post mentioned missiles also, so I misunderstood. It sounds like you are very meticulous in getting the scale details exactly right, so I didn't want you to make a mistake in the ordnance load. Best of luck on the project!

Gus

I didnt know FEJ made them they do not list them is why I asked about it, thanks.

James sent me a picture of the set for the F-14 they look pretty close all the way around, you are right about the fuel tanks they are perfect scale.

These are "perfect" scale that i have been working on for my tomcat project. Dimensions are taken from the actual ordinance's

Aim-54C Phoenix:

I'll post the sidewinder after I have completed the last little details on it.

very cool, the FEJ F-14 set does not come with the phoenix missiles. it has two sidewinders, two aims, looks like some type of lantern pod and the two fuel tanks. it does come with two missile mounts for the phoenix it looks like, maybe they could just put 4 in with a set and I could have someone like you build the missiles for me

PS I curse thou RENTERS!!!

Yep, I see:

2-sidewinders
2- Sparrows
2- Glove vane ordinance mounting pods
2- External fuel tanks
2- Phoenix / Mk.82 bomb fairings (each fairing is actually 2 parts, so 4 parts total)
1- TARPS pod http://www.anft.net/f-14/f14-detail-eca-01l.jpg

Cool looks like an actual layout, so the front to racks that normally hold the phoenix can have MK82s?

The Phoenix 'rails' contained the coolant pump (actually a misnomer since the internal Phoenix avionics were brought to an operating temperature range and in the winter or at altitude, that could actually mean heating the avionics), positive launch pin and some other stuff I can't remember. But, the Phoenix rails were removed and replaced by bomb racks to carry Mk 82's or whatever, including the blue practice bombs.
The belly of the F-14 had indentations (covered up if PH rails loaded) that the Sparrow fit almost halfway into. The top missle fins protruded into the fuselage.

Yep... From all the research i have done, the Mk.82's on the BombCats were normally installed with the phoenix missle fiarings in place b/c it eased release of the weapons. The Tarps pod was mounted at weapons station 5 in place of the Aim-7 launcher, and the most i can figure, only the F-14B's of VF-102 were equipped with Tarps pods.

I have a set of the FEJ ordinance but I haven't been able to come up with a way to install the pylons that I feel comfortable with. Has anyone else installed there's?

Well I can tell you how they did my F-16, When they built the wings they put in hard pounts on the side of the wing. Nothing solid but I am going to attach them with screws like they are designed but i am also going to glue them. Gluing is not needed since the screws hold it just fine but since the ordinance screws on and off I just decided to leave the pylons on.

What I dont understand, is why FEJ would take the time to make the phoenix rails, but not the actual missiles.

Hyrum,
I haven't seen the FEJ F-14 up-close, so i'm not really sure how they intended to do it, but it appears they just want you to bolt the outer weapons pylons to the glove vane area on the Fuselage. Doesn't seem very secure to me. I would probably make up some Structure in the vane area to hold a piece of 3/16" ply that you could place a few blind-nuts in, then have bolt the pylon to that.

well i believe that all FEJ ordinance is static unless you add the hard points yourself to make them flight strength.

No, every air wing had a Tarps squadron and the convention was that the higher number squadron was Tarps-trained. So, VF-143 was Tarps and sister squadron VF-142 was not.

Gus
