Pensacola Jets 2011 is ON!
Hey Gang,
FYI, I received approval today from the Navy today to hold Pensacola Jets 2011 at Holley Field in Navarre, FL. The dates are Veteran's Day weekend, 11-13 November.
As you may know, Holley is a U.S. Navy training field, two paved 3500 ft x 150 ft runways, north/south and east/west. This link has info: http://airportnavfinder.com/airport/KNKL/
Now, we did get some relief from the Navy on the restrictions they were originally imposing, but unfortunately not all. I did secure permission to leave equipment trailers on-site, but they absolutely refused to grant permission for anyone to stay overnight at the field. So, that means no "RV-ing" or camping. Please know I tried hard on this one, but lost. A least a little victory was gained with the trailers.
I will work with local hotels in Navarre to secure a group rate. I'll post more on that as it develops. In the meantime, I'll be working with Rob Baker who has stepped up to serve as CD again for the event. We will try to get the website updated and in place soon for registrations. More info on that as it develops, as well. FYI, the Pensacola Jets 2008 website still comes up if you 'google' it, but please don't use it right now to register! Wait until it says 2011
That is all for now. Carry on.
Cheers,
Sluggo

Good to hear guys! We are working out details like tents and group room rates as I type this...well, not actually right now, but you get my drift
The goal is to have all the logistical details firmed up NLT SuperJet South, as well as the web site 'live'. We hope to get the word out there.
I'll keep y'all updated.

All right Gang,
Pensacola Jets 2011 is moving forward. The website is up and running: http://www.alvinrc.com/jet/
We have secured a group hotel rate at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Navarre, FL. A link to the hotel's website should be posted on our site by next Tuesday or Wednesday. Accessing the Hampton Inn through this portal should automatically trigger the Penacola Jets rate.
That's it for now. Any questions, please email/PM me.

Unfortunately, the Navy will not relent on the overnight camping/RV-ing. One of the guys is working on seeing if the local RV park will work a special rate like the Hampton. So, while RV's are ok on-site during the day, they can't stay overnight.
The rate at the Hampton is $79/night for a regular room, $99 fpr a suite.

Bob - I am looking into that, but I don't know for sure yet. I am going to request access Thursday, say around 1700. We also need that time to get set up, get stuff like porta-potties in place. That way we can be flying at 0800 Friday.
I'll post it when I know.

Thanks, a little earlier would be nice because of the time change.
For those that haven't been before, here is a google earth picture of the field. In the past the pilot stations were where the red lines are. Which runway we used was dependant on the wind direction.

Bob - Thanks for posting the pic. The plan for the pilot stations is the same. We are attempting to get a ruling ASAP from the Navy re. Thursday afternoon. In the past they have opened the field to us at 1730.
We are in Central time...not sure if that was what you meant by the time change.

Good questions guys.
Right now still no ruling on getting access Thursday afternoon...but, that has been allowed in the past, so hopefully we will get approval.
The Hampton Inn has a group rate for us. The Day's Inn is also offering a group rate. I'll talk to Rob again about getting the website updated.
Concessions have been shot down. It's bring-your-own. I don't know what the problem is here, but the field manager has been ADAMANT that concessions may nit be sold.
There will be porta-potties, so no problems there. Tents are allowed, and one idea is to include in the registration fee space in a 40x80 tent, kind of KY Jets style. What say y'all about this idea?
The end of the event is Sunday aftwernoon at 1700, the 13th. We need to do a FOD walkdown and get any tents and the potties removed by dark. The most onerous aspect, I will admit, is that no one is allowed to stay on-site after dark during the event.
Rob and I disussed holding a dinner/banquet on Saturday night. I think it's a great idea. Flounder's on Pensacola Beach would be a great spot. Lots of tables, under roof but open-air, on the beach. But, it is a bit of a drive from Navarre...although, crossing the Navarre Beach bridge and going along the beach road is a nice drive. We'll also scout out Navarre Beach for a possible spot.
Ok, you know what I know at this point. I'll post more as soon as I know it.
