In a bored fit I was cruising the Dreamworks site the other night and stumbled on the JC 140RX. Anyone know anything about this motor? It says 142N of thrust which gives me roughly 35.5#s of thrust. Anyone have weight comparisons vs the 120/160? Fuel consumption numbers?

I have an UF right now in need of a motor, which will ultimately end up in my BV F4. I'm thinking this may be perfect. Ideas/thoughts?

Hi Dave,
The 140rx is about the same size as the 120sx and puts out roughly 32lbs thrust. I dont know when the motors are arriving but Bob Wilcox mentioned to me he was working on the instruction manual. I am guessing they will be coming in sometime in sept with the P-100`s.

Thanks for the info. Where did you get the Newton to pound conversion? I've looked for one for a while to no avail.

Other questions about the 140...it says it weighs 1580G, which comes out to 3.48 #s and pts out 32#s of thrust. The 160 says it weighs 3.1 #s and puts out 36. Wouldnt I be better to get the motor that weighs a half pound less and puts out four more pounds of thrust? I know JC wouldn't come out with a new motor 6-9yrs after the 160 that weighs more and has less performance...what am I missing?

Being an engineer that often works with the metric system that's just one conversion factor that I committed to memory years ago (4.45 N = 1 pound force). If you google metric conversions you should be able to find it.

You have to be careful of the manufacturer's and distributor's advertised specs. They often fudge the numbers to make their products competitive. Also some include the weight of the starter, mount and wiring harness in their engine weights and some don't. I have even noticed discrepancies amongst engines from the same manufacturer.

The P80, P120, P140 & P160 are all the same size. If you look at the Jetcat Germany website it says that the P140RX weighs 1590 gm. and the P160SX weighs 1530 gm. The difference most likely is primarily due to the fact that the solenoids are mounted under the front engine cover on the P140RX. If you look at total installed weight of the turbine and equipment there should be a minor weight advantage for the P140 due to the new smaller ECU.

Great points. I'm trying to decide on a new motor and it's the 140 or the 160. Right now the 160 seems smarter. More thrust, same weight (potentially other than an once or to in the ecu)

I guess it depends on what size jet(s) you are planning to use the motor in?? I have a P-20 with the new V10 ecu and simplified install, it is a leap forward compared to the existing hardware. If you are going to fly an average size jet i would go with the new tecnology 140rx.

From the info I have, the 140 is to replace the 120SX eventually. We will have 100, 140, 160 series of Jetcat. All Kero starts.

1N = 1KG*9.8m/s^2. A lazy man's conversion is to divide N number by 10, then x 2.2 = lbs in thrust.

For example, 140N=14KGX2.2LBS/KG = 30.8lbs (approximate). 100N = 22 lbs.


Most of them will add 1 lbs or 2 lbs thrust depending on elevation and temperature.

I am just curious about the battery consumption per start on these new motors. My 160sx takes a lot of juice to start. The only reliable batteries I use is Li-Mn from Duralite, 3,000mah will give me only 3-4 starts.

I'm not sure what info you've seen on the 140RX but as mentioned above, it has internal solenoids and the new V10 ECU and pump. That means one fuel pipe and one cable to the engine to simplify installation. It is a replacement for the P120.

I have nothing to back up my thoughts but, if I was them, I would be looking at doing the same to the other engines. I wouldn't be surprised if a 160RX turns up soon too.

Dave, you would be better off with a 160 as it'll push the BV F-4 much better.

The BVM F-4 is really not that big or heavy for that matter. The new 140rx would be more than enough for this jet imo.

Thanks for the input. I decided to buy the 140 and think I'm either #1 or 2 on Dreamworks list. Something tells me this will be a good match for Double Ugly. Look for her late next year
