Just trying to get some ideas of what may be going on. Here is the situation. I go out on sunday to fly my hotspot with RAM1000R. I initiate the remote start on the motor and it lights on the propane/butane gas and starts to ramp. The motor gets up to about 23K RPM and 800 degrees celsius and it automatically aborted the start sequence. I refill the onboard gas canister and try it again, this time when the motor approaches 700 degrees I use the blower to help keep it cool and it takes a little longer to ramp on fuel but it does and finished the start sequence. The motor came up to max rpm and ran throughout the entire RPM range just fine without any strange noises and/or vibrations. I flew the flight and the motor responded as it normally would. When I landed I shut down the motor and noticed that when it did its first cool down spin of the motor a small flame shot out the back end. After this I finished cooling it down with the blower. After letting it sit and cool completely down I tried it again with the exact same results. I spoke with Carlos (who is on his way to ohio right now) and it was really hard to hear him since he was on a cell phone traveling, but he did say it could be my starter motor going bad. I tested the starter motor by spinning it up with the SDT and it spins to 12K RPM which is about normal for that motor. Also checked the spool down times of the last 50+ runs and they are all 16-18 which is pretty much normal for this motor from the day it was brought.
I don't want to have the starter motor replaced for the simple reason of the other post that was here stating that the B01L version of the software was not designed to operate the new starter motors and been causing them to burn out prematurely. Any CONSTRUCTIVE advice would be helpful.
Thanks
Patrick.

Patrick,
As I understand it, until the engine is all the way up on the fuel, I believe its primarily the started motor that keeps it spinning. Also, an over temp. situation occurs when there is too much fuel vs. air (i.e., vs. RPM). Thus, I would agree with Carlos' suggestion as one of the first things to suspect. Your starter motor is probably not keeping the RPMs in pace with the fuel ramp up and thus you're getting over temperature. Certainly, your electronics didn't change, the motor runs normally after start, so the motor seems to be OK, as does the fuel system. Perhaps the starter battery may also be giving up the ghost? Maybe try a new battery pack on the ECU/starter motor before replacing the starter motor?

I had the same problem with my 1000R, check how far into the tailpipe the EGT probe wire is sticking into the pipe. It is really only supposed to be sticking in just a little. It made mine start right up.

Try migdriver advice. I was about to post the same thing or check your start/prime pulse setting if its too high. with flame out the back this could be your fuel solenoid leaking or unburnt fuel .
