No this is the actual version, just doing as much testing with electric so I don't have to risk the turbo fan. The electric has enough power to go into hover but not into forward flight.

there are a MW44 (10lb thrust engine) that is turning a Schübeler 94HST, my guess is a P20 doing 5lb of thrust gets half the power, which would be 3kW, just enough for a 90mm EDF.

I saw a guy flying a turbofan out at El Mirage dry lake earlier this year. It was something he made himself...he worked at USC in their machine shop program. It had an air start core turbine, roughly p70 sized, with a shaft running through the center of it. at the back of the turbine was a wheel that was driven by the thrust of the turbine. At the front of the shaft was a larger diameter carbon fiber fan unit. All of this was in a nacelle setup that looked really nice. He had it on a high aspect ratio winged, v tail airplane with a center main wheel and outriggers on the wing tips (ala B-47, U2). The airplane was something he designed and built as well. Had a friend from NASA Dryden there with him helping out. The engine ran very well and put out lots of thrust. It was also very miserly on fuel.
The funny part was that they were impressed with my ViperJet!

Its a 14 cell 60 volt Thunder Power battery, (which lets my fingers know every so often it 60 volts) a jeti 220amp esc and a home made motor and fan.
I had 3 more conventional flights today, I am trying to get it to slow down without pitching up and stalling, I will do this type of outing a few more times before another transitioning attempt, but test flights today looked very promising.
This is what happened in the video. It will literally climb with flaps down until there is 0 airspeed left, and I did not have enough down in the elevator to force it down, then it will drop like a brick, giving you a split second to have full power on, this is not scale, and needs to be corrected. If I can keep level as it loses airspeed I can slowly add the power as the wing loses it's lift.
It was kind of crazy having the first flight in front of the Discovery Channel, but its just the way the timing worked out, but the flight was not to bad it showed promise. I think this thing will challenge me right to the end, I pray that transition into forward flight comes easy, making more Pegasus turbofans is a s$*t load of work. It better not be another 24 years to finish it!!!

Cool Dude!.....your stuff really impressed me. Hope we get the chance to meet again and do some flying. Hope I got the particulars close on my description of your setup.

I had a stabilization computer developed for it, without this it would not work, although I have had some limited success with gyros but not as good as what I am using, the problem is, if you don't have the power on, your puffers are not working, and if the aircraft is gaining altitude as you are slowing down you don't want to add more power and go even higher. This is where all the work come in that I am doing now with the flaps and elevator trim mixes

I've been following your progress with the turbofan for quite a while. Every time I think of or see a Harrier I wonder how close you are. Good to see the progress. The turbofan is terrific and you are close to another of modeling's great accomplishments with the Harrier! Congrats.[8D][8D]
