Ca Hinges

Dear Jet Community. I have a Question . I have been using Ca hinges exclusively on all my jets with great success and no problems . An incident at our club on the weekend has me thinking. A guy with a Cadet (which is not a Jet but a big prop job )had his elevator ca hinges broke off . Is this a concern for me . Upon examining his hinges , I noticed that they tear very easily which make me think that were of inferior quality, and I think that the installation was also poor. Someone said that he used gorilla glue.
I would like to konw if I am ok or should i change my hinges to somthing like the Robart ones . Like I said I examined my CA hinges and they look fine . I flew right after and pulled some serious G"s and all is well .

I have crashed models with CA hinges & amongst the wreckage found broken bits of control surfaces still attached with CA hinges to broken bits of wing & tail surfaces, in other words everything had failed around them but they were still secure. The most damaged ones were stretched a bit but not broken. I DO pin them after installation.
Some of my models are 15 years old but the hinges are still fine. I think you summed it up when you said you thought the broken ones you saw were of inferior quality, lots of vibration on most big prop driven planes as well. Use a well known brand & I think you will have no problems.
With all their advantages I would use them on the type of jets (smaller, slower) I fly.
It depends on what type of jet you fly.
For something like a Nano or Baby Boomerang, probably yes.
For a really big, high performance jet like an Ultra Bandit or Lightning, no.

+1 if I recall, my Boomerang XLII came with these type of hindges.

four years and hundreds of flights on my boomer and no problems but always check them before each days flight just to prove to yourself that everything is ok, if you are happy with it on the ground then you will be happy with it in the air

I used the ca hinges that came with a hangar 9 ultrastick 1.20 and after about a year they started failing. I'd land and half the elevator would be hanging off. Another landing and an aileron would be hanging on by one hinge. I just don't trust them on anything over a .90 size plane. JMO.

using them on my nano boomer for over 12 months, no issues at all. this thing gets flown hard.
pre flight checks carried out before each flight as standard practice.
also used them on the falcon 120 for a couple of years. still going strong when it was sold.
wouldnt use gorrilla glue on them though!!!!!!!!!!!!! as the name says, c/a hinge.

I've been using CA hinges for +20 years, and never had a failure. With that said... I'm just getting into turbines... but honestly, I would think a "3D" type aircraft would put more stress on the hinges than a Jet would. A 3D model is going to have high defection... and a lot of movement. Yes... the jet is going fast... but it's not trying to have 45 degrees of defection.
I guess I'll find out soon enough. I have CA hinged in my Falcon.
