Mr. Yellowaircraft got him some pipes
We had tickets to see the Padres beat my Cubbies last night, but were pleasantly surprised to see the National Anthem sung on National TV by our own Shawn Evans.
National Anthem is a hard song to sing and Shawn's rendition was one of the best I've ever heard. Way to go Shawn!

Ha!
Thanks, Jerry. This time, they let me bring my whole family on the field with me which was cool for my 6-year-old because he's getting into baseball. He got about ten feet away from DJ LeMahieu and Carlos Pena who both waved at him. Next thing I know, he's cheering for them when they're up so I'm trying to explain how we're supposed to be cheering the Padres. Fun times.
Anyway, thanks!

Hi,
Yeah, I'm actually not in the show, I'm directing. We wanted to get the plug for the show on the jumbo-tron, so we let the mistake go uncorrected. Funny, the title of this thread makes one think we're talking about exhaust pipes....

LOL,
The REAL patriots are the ones who are willing to be MOST critical of the nation they love. I'm probably a hell of a lot more patriotic than people think..
Doug,
I'm with you, brother. When whatserface sang the anthem for the last Super Bowl, I wanted to puke. Not because she effed up the lyrics (although that's kind of irritating) but because she had to see how many syllables she could squeeze into every note. I'm listening thinking, "what IS this??" That crap doesn't capture the meaning of the song, or honor the people that make the words real. I like when singers can do something nice with it, but let the words speak for themselves. My two favorites are Whitney Houston's Super Bowl rendition with Ja-Ja Ling's arrangement and Lou Rawls', which I heard live at a Chargers game (for which I was supposed to sing, but got bumped when his people offered him up at the last minute). Both of those stirred my soul.

Good job dude. Like that key change I think it was ten years ago, about this time, that we developed that arrangement in a Lincoln Continental as our sound studio.
The first time that arrangement went public was at Fresno Jets 2001. Lears Video had it on their coverage of that years' event. Wow, a blast from the past fo sho.
Still partial to the Faith Hill Super Bowl version myself. Best background orchestral arrangement ever done on our National Anthem, imho.
Your lookin' quite sveldt there Shauno. Good on ya!

I often forget that I have this smart phone-thing in my pocket and that I can use it to view stuff like this (old guy syndrome)....
I watched it. WOW Shaun, that is the first time I can recall seeing someone hit one out of the park BEFORE the first pitch!!! VERY impressive!

Paul,
You're right! That's your key change! You taught me that years ago, and I've used it ever since...whether a solo or duet or whatever.
Guys,
Thanks very much. I appreciate the kind words. Little known fact: Paul Reese, of scale landing gear and cool video fame, is also an AMAZING singer. Seriously. Next time you see him, get him to do "Desperado" for you. I'm dead serious.

Very nice singing! Your anthem is a difficult one to sing. I'm really impressed. So, does Shaun fly as well as he sings
Bravo from Finland! Btw...our national anthem and Estonia's share the same composition, only the words and language differ!
