Stainless tube for smoke system
A friend and I are about to order some stainless tube for making sticks for a smoke system (Ultra Flash)
The idea is to run a length of 4mm tube between the inner and outer wall of the thrust tube, make a bend at the hot end, and squeeze the end of the tube to make it spray the oil into the exhaust.
Now the tube that we can get (AISI 316), is 4 mm outside diameter, the wall thickness can be 0.2, 0.3 or 0.4 mm and I honestly don't know what to go with (it's getting delivered, so no chance of "feel" before)
Any idea what thickness we should be looking at, we must still be able to form it at the end of the exhaust, but still not too soft.....

RE: Stainless tube for smoke system
Carsten, The tubing we use has a wall thickness of .010. WE have done this system on the last few planes coming out of my shop and it works very well.
Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot Bill!
I saw your nice pictures in another "smoking" thread, great ideas
0.01" is around 0.25 mm, so think we will go with the 0.3 mm
Thanks!

RE: Stainless tube for smoke system
There will be no structural forces on this tube, only it's own weight, so even 0.2mm will be OK as it is protected inside the model.
I have to install smoke system on my Futura and have come too late on the JP2011 stand that was selling some good tube ![:@] (And I've seen you in a great discuss with Ali, but was too shy to disturb everybody...)

Anyway, it's not the forces I was concerned about, more that it was easy to bend (and not too easy), we will order some 0.3 mm and see if it works, thanks for the comments (and interesting with the brass too!)
