Boomerang Nano E-flite Retracts - Help Requested.
Hello,
I have a Nano and recently got the E-Flite retracts.
Could somebody enlighten me on how to install the front retract.
I have attached pictures of my problem...
Thanks,
Parik Raski

The bearers are too low. Looks like you gotta do some surgery if you can only install them underneath. Could you drop the retract unit ontop of the bearers?
I'll just add that I've got a lot of experience of these 120 size eFlite retracts. They are fantastic with the exception of one thing. The tiller arm on the nose retract is weak. Make sure the servo can move it without the tiller arm rubbing on anything or being bent when the servo arm moves or during the retract operation. It snaps off VERY easily.

Hi Patrik,
You need to install the front unit on top of the bearers rather than the bottom. I will take a picture shortly to show you how its done.
regards
Colin

Here you go..
You need to make a slot beneath each bearer to allow the retract unit to slide in. Leave a little wood below the bearer - 2/3 mm and reinforce with hysol just to be safe. As the bearers are glued to the side formers along their length you are not compromising the strength.
Then glue 4 nuts to the bottom face of the unit and install. The screws will go through the bearers (with washers), through the retract unit and then into the nuts you have glued on.
Have done a lot of flying with the large and small Eflite units - no issues with tiller arms so far !

Words before Colin's pixs
Cut notches in the rear former so you can post the retract in from the back. We all aeropoxy M3 spike nuts to the retract rails and put long screws through the bearers and into the units.
You will also have the trim down the bearer to clear the steering arm...ah yes, Doc
Fitting the eFlight Undercarriage to a Boomerang Nano.
1) Carefully slot the rib below the upper face of the undercarriage bearer. The width should be just wide and deep enough to allow the under carriage to pass thru.
2) Carefully scallop out the lower face of the under carriage mount to accept the steering spigot and associated clevis attachment (see photo). Check for full and free movement.
3) Counter sink the two mounting holes in the scalloped undercarriage bearer to accept counter sunk bolts (2x).
4) Fit and epoxy 3mm star nuts (4 off) to the under carriage mounting face (Note: file off/remove some of the star nut tangs/spikes to allow an almost flush fit. Do not remove the threaded upset. This upset should be a press fit into the undercarriage assembly mounting holes (see photo).
5) Take a suitable heavy duty nylon clevis and enlarge the length of the slot to ensure the undercarriage steering plate will be fully accepted and functional by the clevis at the extremes of the slot (i.e When the nose wheel is retracted and full rudder is applied). See photo of standard & modified clevis with enlarged length of slot.

Keep the wheels light on the mains they are not gonna pull up well with heavy wheels and brakes on them. And hit the gear switch soon after take off as well.
