Default Turbine size pricing

This may be a stupid question, but why does a wren 44 cost £1700, and a wren 160 cost £2349 ? Where does the extra £650 go? Surely the manufacturing costs must be comparable? The material costs must be comparable? Discuss...................

Not sure what you want to hear but here is my take;

Small Pizza: $7
Medium Pizza: $9
Large Pizza: $11
X-Large Pizza: $13

Does it take extra effort to make any next larger size? Not so much if the tooling and expertise is there. Extra material? Sure it's bigger right?

I don't think we will ever figure any of this crazy stuff out so I stopped trying a long time ago and just go by the motto "Buy what you can afford and enjoy it while you can". In other words focus on what you want/need and who cares about the rest of the associated issues like the next size up pricing.

Making smaller turbines is generally harder than making big ones

The tooling and time will be the same... and normally materials prices are going to be close... but when you are dealing with high Nickel alloys... they are very expensive, and you are looking at a price increase of at least $300 just for the guide and wheel. Also... many times, when you are setting up a new parts run in a mill or lathe... you have to scrap your "Set up" parts. So in that case... you have more $$$ in set up. With expensive parts... I'm sure they try not to scrap them... but it happens.

My problem is with JetCat making the little P-20 $500 more than the P60. The only reason it is more expensive is because it's competition is expensive (Kolibri) and they know they can get the $$$ for it.

The price of something has got nothing to do with the cost of making it. Price is set by the customers, not by what it cost you to make it. Selling price is not the manufacturing cost plus some morally allowable margin. The only thing that cost of manufacture has to do with price is it determines whether the selling price is in profit or loss.
