Default Flash Flap repair???

Ok, had a bad landing (operator error) with my Flash. In the process I managed to delaminate the flaps almost completely. Any trick to repairing the live hinge? I was thinking about putting some epoxy down as far as possible to glue it to the skin and then some thin CA on the hinge. The actuall hinge is still good and not split, it just delaminated the hinge from the inside skin.

The best recommended procedure is to use Finnishing resin, it will soak in better than any thing else. Just put some resin in the skins and clamp it up into the full up position. Tape off the seams and any where you dont want it stuck as the finnishing resin is pretty thin and flow out.

the Flash is a form / fiberglass laminate CA has been used many times on partial delaminations but i've not seen it used on a full rip out. I think you'd be better off cutting the other flap off and installing both with flap hinges from the bottom side IMO.

The repair method outlined by ddstang works great. I had the same delamination on my classic flash and repaired it using finishing resin. Have over 100 flights since the repair with no problem at all. Just be sure to keep the skin hinge area clear of resin an you will be fine.

KC, I just ordered some of the hinges from Todd. You are saying to install them on the underside of the wing correct? I have never used this type of hinge before. They couldn't be installed inside the flap correct?

Thanks
Graham

Re-gluing the skin really is'nt as big of a deal as it sounds and holds up really good. I would suggest that method before cutting your flap off. This has been a common issue and using finnish resin to re-glue has been the standard method.

they have to go outside, you notch the flap/wing skin and hysol them in.
