Mark, have you been able to get the Rx to communicate with the Tx. Mine will not register?

Yep,

Make sure you press link and then link again and whilst it is making it's magical Harry Potter noises, switch on power to the RX.

There is no real reason why I need to move on to the 18MZ but I will...., my 14MZ has been great a piece of kit which I have never regretted buying.

You won’t regret it; it makes the 14 look and feel decidedly pedestrian!

Nice one Keith! I don't think anyone can truly argue they NEED an 18MZ but if you fancy one and you can afford it, why the hell not eh?!

I think going back to a 14 would drive me up the wall now having used the 18 just for a day [8D]

Mike,

That's what I feel about my 12Z.

I'm going to have to feel a lot worse about it though before I shell out 3 grand for this baby.

Merry Christmas to you and Sue.

Well I can't see what all the fuss is about... I picked mine up today and you can defiantly see where money has saved. The thing does not look so reassuringly expensive like the 14MZ does. And at £2200 there isn't even a SD card or whatever gubbins make the RX 18ch included in the price. Ok theres a bit of telemetry, the software is better as it the battery life, touch screen response and contrast but I put that down to modern technology.

It's strange that all the people who seem to have them are like me ex 14MZ owners yet everyone apart from me is raving about them.... I reckon all you Superstars have had a bung from Ripmax

I would say that if you own a 14MZ then keep it, this 18MZ is not worth upgrading to but needless to say if you have a JR or Spektrum set then race out and buy one (or a 14) as it will be a very very worth while upgrade[8D]

So in summary, yes it will work perfectly because Futaba 2.4 is superb but theres no way in this world is it worth £2200.

Oh dear [:-]

Glad I didn't rush out and get one.
I think I'll give my 12FGs a good spit and polish tonight.

£2200 saved, thanks Jason !

Yes the 18MZ looks nice and the improvements might be money well spent for the flyers who are able to afford it, HOWEVER..as a 14MZ owner I certainly can NOT justify the upgrade. The brighter screen...umm the newest 14MZ screens is as bright as I need. My $10 ebay batteries last 2 hrs.

I would add,
If you don't have a 14MZ already, you would never regret getting the 18MZ. My 14MZ is most talked about radio at the field. my favorite item on my 14MZ is the audio on the switches...love to hear, "timer on", "aileron high rates"...All systems are a go. fly low..blue skies...no wind

This is certainly one impressive looking radio and is on my shopping list..

Please don't take this the wrong way as Futaba is my favourite radio brand and I have an 8FG for all my larger helis, but I also fly DX8s and JR11xs...

So I'm not intending to bag Futaba at all, I am their biggest fan and have been waiting for this radio for months...

But the quotes from above made me laugh..

Also, I like the vibrate warnings!

LOL.. my DX8 has vibrate warnings

7.2 volt lipo has over 5 hours run time co big improvement on 14MZ.

Again, LOL, my Kraft 7C in 1980 had over 5 hours run time...

The DX8 on Lipo is over 38 Hours, and an 8FG will run for around 12 Hours... JR11X about 9 Hours...

No offence intended, these are just objective observations.. I love the 18MZ.. and will grab one when in the USA next year...

Thanks for posting all the pics...

Whats next 24mz? I can't even use everything on my 12FG it is better than me so I will spend the 3k on airplanes that my 12FG can do more than I need.

Hi all...

Nice to see the 18s arriving to market, so those of you in the UK, who are the Lucky first, has anyone got any answers/thoughts, re using Weatronics rxs with the 18 tx, given it seems from the pics, to have a fixed tx modual..?
Im currently on 14mz, with plug in modual, but not got Wea gear yet...

Cheers Jeremy.

Jeremy

Obviously if Futaba only build this Tx with fixed built in Tx stage then they have no intention of letting people use Weatronics on it afterall that would cut down on selling their Rx's!
Just checked on Weatronics and they only have the T14MZ listed which is what I expected also all the views of the T18MZ shown no module and top mounted aerial.
Have a good Xmas everyone! Santa already been to me and dropped off a VT80....

Other than in photos , I have never seen a 14mz with a Weatronics module attached to it. I guess it's more common in the UK.
