RE: BEST IN THE WEST JET RALLY
We had a lot of fun this year. Joe, the idea of having the dinners at the field was the best!!!! you and Nancy did an amazing job this year with the event.
Great to see old friends, meet new ones, have a chance to hang out with my dad, and have my kids enjoy the hobby and play with their friends.
Thanks to all the Buttonwillow crew for all the work on the field and the flight line.
We had to do some wrenching on the rafale to get it going...Juan thanks for your help on getting our cheetas dialed up and Todd for having a store on site. After a morning of work, the twin cheetah rafale is just insane!!!
BTW, have you seen this kid???

Had a really great time this year at BITW. 3.5 days of flying, crazy. It was fun to watch all the pilots do their routines and the activities in the pits. Joe, Nancy and the Barks crew really did an outstanding job making it the smoothest jet rally I've ever been too. No detail left undone. Finally unpacked everything and never noticed that we all got the Best In The West golf pencil. That is some attention to detail, good job Joe! Some pics of the F-105, thanks B1Bob for getting it done for the show. And Ali flying the heck out of it. Brought back a lot of memories when I was a kid.

Fantastic event! Thanks to Joe, all organizers, BARKs club, FAA, etc, etc. I can still feel the adrenaline rush of flying a jet sharing the airspace with up to 5 other jets at the same time! BTW, the officers managing takeoffs/landings did an outstanding job!ma BIG thanks to them also!

RE: BEST IN THE WEST JET RALLY
it's all been said before.. But I dont care! I am saying it again anyway!!!
BITW 2012... What an event. My thanks go to Joe C for once again inviting me out and being the perfect host. Todd and all of the Barks crew. Firstly for letting us take over their club, and secondly for manning the flight line in such a manner that allowed wall to wall flying across a 5 day period with 100% no drama. Doug deserves a massive thanks. Firstly for making me laugh pretty much non stop from Tuesday, right through till Sunday morning. I woke up Saturday with a abdominal ache from laughing so much ( beats a headache ) Also thanks Doug for keeping me fed and watered ( Well Hydrated with Rockstar's) Your BBQ skills with the Carne are top notch. On the subject of BBQ's.. I cant mention BBQ or food without giving recognition to the King of BBQ. Magoo. I can still taste the New York Strip. Thankyou my friend. Staying on the food thing ( Hell. Anyone would think this was a cook out event instead of a jet event ) Tam. That BBQ.... Whatever was delicious. Although I did nearly chip a tooth on something you fed me. When I finally spat it out it read "Fido" If found please return to....... Oh well. Delicious non the less, and lots and lots of fun catching up with you.
Whoever invited Russ to the tent ( I am guessing it was Doug? ) Master stroke. Russ is a veritable party on legs. Thanks for bringing all the supplies. That corner tent was my salvation during the event. I think without it I would be looking like one of those carcasses you see out in the middle of the wilderness. Fun guy also. Even leaving me stranded with a worse for ware Tam for 20 mins whilst he spoke the finest Tamglish through a Cigar that he could have done chin ups on wont tarnish my opinion of Russ. Kenny mac on the other hand... He was supposed to be my friend
B1 Bob.. Your a trooper! I just about gave up on the F-105 after my second..... now I cant really call it a landing, as anything that sets car alarms off cant be classed as a landing surely? But B1 just put his head down and got the Thud back up and running so we could get two more flights on it which made the world of difference. Whist no way near perfect yet, the Thud is well and truly heading in the right direction.
Thanks to all of those that put their faith in me flying their models. I hope I was of some help? Even if it was just to show how a crappy hitec servo will burn out if loaded with crow [:@] Sorry John.
I am still pretty jet lagged so I just know I am forgetting some people to thank, so sorry for that. I just want to say once again how great the event was. I have been involved in it for the past three years and watching it grow is really inspiring. Joe and Nancy have worked so so hard, and it looks as if their efforts are being re paid. The event had that happy buzz about it. Lots and lots of flying, with little loss or damage. I didnt hear a bad word spoken about the event or how it ran, so that has to be a good thing. I loved the fact that it was just non stop flying. No breaks for noon time demo's, no clogging the runway with the public line up ( Genius having it in the pit area whilst keeping the flight line running) Anyway. Enough of my waffle. Thanks a million Joe, and to all my West coats buddies, both old and new. I just hope I can make it back for 2013?
Regard Al

RE: BEST IN THE WEST JET RALLY
Just out of interest, I thought I might actually try and log how much flying I have done over the last week at Best in the West, and on how many different types of aircraft.....
( I know, super nerdy, but I remember flying back home last year wondering the same thing )
Here is the list thus far, and logs flights from just Wednesday through till Sunday. ( Tuesday was our set up day and I cannot remember flying that day.. could be wrong )
Makes interesting reading for me, and gives me a goal, that if I get invited back next year. I want to break 100 flights! Thats one of the things I really like about this event, is that its so laid back and stress free that you can log flight after flight with ease.
