HI Guys, I picked up a usedjetcat smoke pump, from a very straight up guy. The pump failed last night when I installed it in my Futura, it ran for 1/2sec. I find out today, these older pumps where notorious for failure, and a easy fix, is to install a speed control.
Don't know much about speed controlers, what size, what brand, etc.
The pump has a brushed , speed 300 motor.

I have ran a Behotec fuel pump using an Electrifly C-7 esc with good luck. The Behotec pump uses a speed 300 motor rated at 6a on 6v. Here is a list of Graupner brushed motors http://homepage.ntlworld.com/edward....s/graupner.htm They show there 6v speed 300 at 5a. Using the esc on a fuel pump getting a slow start was tricky but this shouldnt be an issue with smoke. One issue may be if the Esc has a saftey system to prevent accidental starts. On the Electrifly the throttle has to go from idle-full-idle for it to arm.

If you make a post in the car, or electric flight section... I bet you can have a box of DC ESC's for free. Since everyone has changed over to brushless, all the old brushed ESC's are sitting around.

Hi Pete,
I made a smoke pump using my old Ram 500 fuel pump and a Kontronik Rondo 300 Speed Controller. It works great and looks like it might be a direct replacement for the one in your picture. I bought it from Tower at the time but they no longer carry them.
Using Google I found the following:

Here's a good source close to home:

I made my own smoke pump using one of these and a fuel transfer pump that was compatible with smoke/kero such as the Sig Anderson gas passer:

You should be able to use one of these speed controls soldered directy to the motor terminals and a little bit of radio programming mixing throttle to the smoke channel.
