Hi Sidajili

Why would you use a dx18 when you have a jr12?

To my mind thats a backward step. Okthe dx18 may have a few more channels and the programing may be a little better but its still a cheap radio with all the problems thatspectrum seem to have with new Tx's.

I have a Jr12 running dsm2 and the newXG11 running DMSS.

Bothhave been perfect so far.

I will only fly jets on well proven set ups.

Andyou have one.

Rock on JR

I would send your Dx 18 in to be checked over before using it again, a clubmate over here lost two airframes in succession after going over to the DX 18, he sent his back to HH and they found a serious fault, fair play to them they covered his losses for the models he lost and the replacement transmitter has been fine since.
Stay with the 12 until you are sure?

Hi sidajili
Lets keep this thread Viper orientated.
I don't want this thread to degrade it to "who's got the best RC" That subject is more volatile than politics and religion put together.
I'm more than happy to share issueswith my or anyTx with a PM or on the appropriate thread.
Iwill PM you with what happened in case you havesimilar symptoms for those whom are evan slightly intrested I put my sorry Tx story on a RC related thread.

Jesus.... i wouldnt have said anything if i had known how upset people get!!!

Vipers rock, and the smoke systen works great. Just only run the pump on half speed as for some reason at full speedthere's no smoke???

Not sure why, maybe to much fuel.

Will try tweeking it today.

Fly Happy

Can someone confirm, is the factory CG is 15mm or so back from the spar?

added 6 oz of lead in the nose and CG is as follows:
Thanks empty, gear down, uat full: 36mm back from center of spare
Tanks full (front and read config): 30mm back from center of spar.

When I add another RC lipo I should be right on the factory CG with tanks fullt, and will start removing lead after the first flights.

Hi essyou35

I think every one will agree that the Viper behaves very well andin fact is safe as houses with the CG at 35mm back (when dry)I would start from there.
With the CG any futher forwadit just needs a litel more up trim to fly level and more a tad more forwad stick when inverted, its still a niceto fly but no more stabelso why struggel.
Ive have had my Vipers CG way wayfurther back and it still behaved very well and still remaind stabel,Im nowover 40mm backand shes good as gold yet still need a littel up trim.

Im sure you will enjoy your first flights and many more after.

All the best

Well.... flew mine today, I think 5 flights, really enjoyed the experience. It's a nice handling machine and has excellent performance with the JL T12 but it doesn't need it! I had the CG set at the 35mm mark and similar set-up to everyone else. When inverted it just needed a touch of down to keep it level. Landings are easy on full flap - just point the nose down and flair at the bottom. Just need to tweak for landing trim a bit more and knife edge flight.

Here's a picture of my Viper and me...

Spent the last 3 days flying the pants off the viper.
Ive now done 14 flights with 2 other people flying a couple.
What a great plane, flies well in different wind conditions and handles cross winds no problem.
My cg is still 25 mm behind and if i can be bothered to swop things around i may shift it back.
A bigbig thank youto Jeff for all his help and pushing me into to buying this one :-)(not really into sports jets)
And a big thank you to Mark and Gary for their help and advice.
Roll on the summer..... and maybe an.... F4 :-)

Cheers

Sean

Hi guys, been looking at purchasing one of these Vipers. I really like the "Vodafone"paint scheme. Are there any visability issues with it in the air? I read that maybe it was extremely reflective?  It's a toss up between that one and the white, red, silver scheme. I'm planning on using the Kingtech K-100 and using the rear tanks for fuel and one tank for smoke up front. Looks like you guys hammered out most of the issues with this bird.
Great thread!

I havent flown mine yet, but I have an l-39 with the red, white silver scheme as well as a mig-29 with the MIG OVT scheme (incomplete withotu the blue on it). All these have mostly white wings, the l-39 has the red wing tips like the viper and silver chckers.

I tend to look at the wings a lot in the center while flying, and the white dissapears on me in the sky. Given the wings are mostly white on my viper, I do expect the same. Once you get used to it its not bad but all you see is a "red fuse" without wings at times. If you hunt for the wing tips it helps but I dont see them for some reason.

The silver one I would think would be more visible. The silver doesnt look any more silver than other silver jets, such as the f-86D I had, and it never blinded me.

I have a chrom mig-15 with chrome monokote on it. That DOES relect a lot, but I fly it all the time without issues. Just in gray skies that one is hard to keep orientation on. I love the reflection.

Just my .02 from someone who hasnt flown the viper yet.

Hi Joe,

On a clear day it is great and very visible. On an overcast day it can get quite dark against the clouds and blend in but when the red gets a glimpse of light it really stands out. I find I fly it closer on overcast days. My friend who has the Canadian schemes viper is much easier to see on an overcast day compared to mine. I've attached a pic of mine on a clear hot day which was a bit hazy with some light cloud.

If the need ever comes to build another I would go with the canadian, red white sports scheme or yellow & green sports scheme.

Just returned from an invitational Jet meet. See this link

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11..._3/key_/tm.htm

Video #9 shows my flight with my red silver Viper. It's easy to see in the clear day but like Jermey said, the red and silver blends in the overcast quite easily. The easiest one to see far away is the Yellow Green. Smoke system will make it easier to see as we'll. overall it's a great sport scale plane that you can throw in the back of mid size SuV and go fly anywhere.

Yes, quite agree. Am happy i asked you for this because reading through your post, we seem to have same problem. IAMVERYSURE my Tx have a problem. Two of my aircrafts have acted funny. I love the DX18 so much that I ordered the QQ version. Very simple. Will head over to the DX18 forum to find a solution. Many thanks... saved my turbine Jets... you never know. Thank you!
