I am considering putting a jet event together here in N.M. How many jets have you seen flying at the same time, at the events that you have attended ? We have six pilot stations. I want to be safe, but at the same time, I want to keep the event moving along, and give every one a chance to fly ............. Should I limit it to less then six ? ? ?

How many pilots do you anticipate will be attending? I have seen as many as eight at one time at the larger events, but that can get "busy". If it's a 30ish pilot event , you may find four pilot stations rarely get used at the same time. I'd say your six stations will be good IMO.

I have found that it is still "comfortable" to fly at events with 3-4 other airplanes in the pattern with me. With 5 or more other airplanes in the pattern it just isn't fun anymore because I end up spending the entire flight avoiding traffic.
I would suggest you allow up to 6 planes in the air at a time. You should also require all pilots to have a spotter with them on the flight line, and be sure that all of the pilot stations are close enough together that the spotters (and pilots) can communicate with each other easily. At the pilot's meeting make sure you stress to all the pilots that they should let everyone else on the flight line know their intentions by announcing taxi, take off, low pass, slow flight, emergency. gear pass, landing, etc...
It makes flying much safer and more fun when you don't have to guess what other airplanes are going to do.
When are you thinking of having this event?

At Colorado Jets there are usually 25 pilots and most of the time only 2 in the air at one time. If you want to draw from the Colorado jet fliers I would suggest you stay away from the events listed below. The military jets will be attending Warbirds over the Rockies and all jets will be at Colorado jets. What dates are you thinking about and where is Bemis?
