Wow Ali, I have never much fancied the looks of the English E.L.

But your flying makes her almost bearable.

Nice scheme and missiles and lights/burners too! I imagine she's comfortably a healthy 25-27 Kilos (55-60 lbs) on takeoff yes?
BF300 or P200SX? Or Twins?

480 resolution! What was that vid taken with?

Bit of HD for Lightning lovers.

Nice video DOm.. but awful flight! [:@] Probably the worst I have had with the plane. I didnt realise till I went to put secomd stage of flap in for landing, that in-fact. I had been flying the entire flight with take off flap still in... Doh! [:'(]
I too have never really loved the look of the real aircraft.. However. I am strangely drawn to its oddness and unique shape. Also the fact that its such an iconic aircraft here in the UK. It seems to evoke so many memories and emotions for many. I love having it at an event just to hear all of the stories that various people recall about their memories of the EEL.
Its a challenge to fly. Not an everyday flyer for sure, but one that keeps me on my toes and is one of the very few planes that gets me worried. Strangely enough with the I gyro working and the BF300 blowing its really quite solid and direct to fly. The worry is what happens when either of those two components stop! [X(]

To me she is gorgeous, I think many on here are too young to remember seeing the Lightning being demonstated in the 60's but I can tell you once witnessed never forgotton. The performance was staggering, take off then full afterburners vertical and out of sight in a few seconds with the pilots eyeballs rolling around in the back of his helmet!. That thing was quick. Mind you it would be back in 15 minutes with empty tanks. When I see one it always take me back to those days and those demo's.

Hi Jetster,
Well this is the aeroplane that converted me into a complete aviation nut at the age of 5. Circa 1959, just before they went into service with the RAF my dad took me to an airshow. The only topic of conversation was the English Electric Lightning. Even the name was synonamous with speed and unlimited power.
I used to go and see them whenever they were flying anywhere near me, and the performance was never a disapointment.
It's performance has not been bettered until the Eurofighter came into service. It had about the same fully loaded climb rate as a fully loaded F15, about 50,000 feet per minute. Furthermore it could turn and burn with the best of anything the allies or the soviet block had flying at the time. It wasn't until F15's and the like came along that it was really outclassed.
Amazing machine, superb model, great flying Ali.

John
