Default Florida jet update

We are getting several emails per day asking about the location of Florida Jets and change in runway. So I thought that one post might clear things up.

First, the event is starting on Wednesday instead of Thursday, so you may start flying then. You may set up Tuesday, all day, from 9am until 4:30pm. That includes Motor
Homes, Tents and dropping off trailers. We have overnight security starting Tuesday night. We will start flying each day at 8:30 and we are now allowed to fly until almost dark,
which is usually around 5:45 or so.

The New Runway is asphalt, 720 feet long by 52 feet wide. It runs East / West and we face North while flying, so the sun is never a factor for visibility. It is completely surrounded by short grass.
This will help in a wheels up landing. Pilot tents are set up in the usual manner, parallel to the runway, but a bit off center will be a "perpendicular" row of vendor tents with all vendors grouped
together for easy access. Doing it this way accomplishes two things; one, it reduces the amount of pilot area consumed by vendors and two, it places ALL vendors in an
area easy to find, easy to see and easy to be accessed by spectators and pilots alike.

The entrance to the field is the same as it has been, Gate #36. However the runway is now south and a bit west of where the previous grass runway was, so we now have much more
room "behind" the tents to accommodate more trailers and vehicles. However, if you are renting a tent, depending on the size of your trailer, you may still be able to fit only one trailer along the
backside of your tent. So, if you have more than one trailer coming, please call me or email me so we can discuss the best way to accommodate you, rather than waiting until you
are on site and possibly find there is no extra room. You may reach me by phone 863 607 6611 or email [email protected].

One last thing. We are happy and willing to accept shipments at FTE if you wish to freight your airplane to us. In fact, we can help with some great rates if needed.
We will transport your crate to the flying field so you may unpack it upon arrival. Let me know if you need this service.

Hopefully this answers everything.
Thanks, FT

As in the past, we have a huge generator on site with multiple control boxes containing 6 outlets each.
We recommend you bring a 100 foot extension cord.

So is the location of the new runway?

Frank,

I applaud your (very significant) efforts to upgrade the Florida Jets site. As a jet pilot, I always appreciate the efforts of people in the hobby to support our segment of it, thank you for that.

During that time of year, my son is in high school and I'm in the middle of my semester,so we probably won't be able to make it down this year, but I think we're going to have to make a more concerted effort to clear out the schedule in 2015!

Good luck with FL Jets 2014, I hope its a great success!

Bob

Frank, I wanted to say thank you for all the efforts you put into these shows. I can't make it this year. My wife is very ill and cannot be left alone for me to travel that long or far away for now or I'd be there with Steve Stricker and his F-4. Hopefully she will get better during the year and we can come down for the big monster plane rally in the fall.

Well, all I can say is that I look forward to seeing many of you whom I have not seen in awhile. I know that many stayed away thinking the grass field was a hindrance.
It will be good to have many of the old crews back again. We always have a lot of fun with you guys. Since some of you were here, Lakeland has several new, and really cool,
places to hang out at night. One last thing, it sure helps us for the planning part if you can find the time to pre-register. The form is on our site. Later, FT

Well, Dustin Buescher, Bob Violett, Tommy Wood, Sean Curry and I just flew at the new site to check distance parameters, i.e.; distance from trees, buildings, high tension wires etc.
We have NO issues. The City did a great job of landscaping the grass into the blacktop so there is a minimal edge. All in all, I'd say we are AFL delighted!

I think that Dustin is posting something on Facebook. Either his or FTE Promotions page.
And I am certain that he will do something on the BVM web site. At least I hope so.
